I just watched this one recently, and probably the saddest episode I've seen so far ... I think a lot of people can agree with me? (Although I haven't seen season 4 - 5 so dunno what you guys have seen! Maybe there are sadder episodes). There was a lot of depth and emotion put into this one ... and the actors really stepped it up this episode. Jensen's always very good at the "single-teardrop" sort of crying, while I guess Sam's the weeper. Both very impacting. Plus, a great classic rock song is played in this episode ... Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. When it starts playing near the end, your heart just breaks inside!
When I say "depth", I'm mostly referring to the lessons both Winchesters have to learn in this episode. Look back to Born Under a Bad Sign, where Sam asks Dean to kill him ([is this the right episode?] I specifically refer to this episode because Sam "did something bad", while other times it's mostly speculation as to what Sam could become). Sam pushed Dean hard, knowing it should be an easy thing: if he's turning evil, Dean simply has to kill him. Dean refuses; being the family man, he sees Sam as his brother and nothing else. In "Heart", I think Sam starts to understand what asking to kill him means to Dean now. Looking past the human to kill the evil isn't as easy as Sam probably thought. But Sam also shows Dean that because Madison asked him to do it, he's going to honour her request. I think Dean realizes what Sam means when he says, "I want you to do it". Very sad, but well-thought out episode. My only critique is that I wasn't a huge fan of Madison ... sorry, long post. Also, like I said before, I've only seen seasons 1-3, so if you mention any season 4/5 stuff, I won't be able to reply to it, haha ... so don't feel bad if I don't reply specifically to your post! :)

Hey, if you haven't answered this, check out Supernatural Season 1 thread to do it too!
Talk about the _est episodes about Season 2 here! What, in your opinion are the: Scariest Funniest Most Well Writtenest Saddest Strangest (suggested by deanna0918 :D ) Cutest (suggested by deanna0918 :D ) and why? Scariest Playthings I liked Season 2 because the episodes didn't lose any of their awesomeness, but weren't as scary! I picked this one because of the dolls ... yeah, cute alright. Funniest Tall Tales Seriously ... this one is hilarious. The part where they mock each other in their retelling of the story to Bobby?? So funny! Most Well-Writtenest In My Time of Dying/Roadkill I really liked this one. Lots of emotional stuff, and it was really interesting, too! Plus, the thing with the Ouija board? Funny and clever! Roadkill is a really clever episode, and one of my favourites. Saddest HEART/What is and What Should Never Be/Roadkill Seriously, it's the saddest one of ALLTIME. Didn't really like the actress for Madison, though. Also, can't help "aweing" for What is and What Should Never Be; when Dean opens the door and his mum is there? His voice just cracks when he says, "Mom?". Plus, it's sad to see Dean and Sam's relationship. I guess Roadkill wasn't THAT sad compared to Heart ... but I really felt sorry for Molly at the end. Strangest Tall Tales It was supposed to be strange!! I pretty much "What the"d throughout the whole thing in between laughing. Cutest What is and What Should Never Be/Simon Said Seeing Dean so happy and Sam with Jess = cute. Andy = CUTE. Seriously, the writers of Supernatural wanted us to break our heart strings. They were tugged so much in this season!
