Okay i just watched the episode again, and grandpa is on my radar now. Its really urking me on why didn't he kill that woman. He rushed and put her in the van before Dean and Sam got back. Then the look on his face was weird also. What the hek is going on? By the way I like Sam's car.

After reading that the episode comes across better the second time around, I decided to watch it again.
It IS somewhat better the second time around, perhaps partly because I didn't just watch the intensity Swan Song which I watched immediately before seeing Exile the 1st time. It's STILL not what I had hoped for, but I'm back to thinking that, other than not being ANGRY enough, Dean is not that far off character. I did not think he was hesitant about entering the abandoned building when checking out the scream -- cautious, perhaps, but not hesitant. Yeah, he ducked when the birds flew in his face, but....they flew right in his face. He wasn't AFRAID. It was just a normal reaction. And as soon as he saw the sulfur, he kicked right back into hunter mode without hesitation. When he was gathering his weapons, it was as if no time had passed at all. Sam's still a problem. While not quite as cold as he first seemed, there's no fire there AT ALL...no emotion about ANYTHING, let alone seeing Dean again. Now, I suppose that could just be bad writing or directing but I find it hard that such an extreme change could be anything but deliberate -- I'm just not sure what they're shooting for. He just sits quietly with that slight smile on his face through almost the whole episode -- it's just too weird. Something is still really OFF there . And his comment at the end about not being willing to go running over to help the neighbors is just weird. As someone else pointed out, at the end of last season, Bobby made a point of saying just how fearlessly Sam kept running back to pull people out of the building where the Croatoan virus was loose without thinking of himself at all. He's also the guy who VOLUNTARILY JUMPED INTO THE PIT for crying out loud!! Is this the same guy who's now saying he wouldn't take chances to at least TRY to save innocent folks? (Cont.) |
