McClean - 16 April 2006 Sightings of a young boy off Route 66.

Twelve people have crashed with severe injuries and several deaths in the Texas Panhandle over the last five years on the stretch of road leading east out of McClean toward the highway.

Ghost? Death echo?

Interesting note: The Devil's Rope Museum
resides in McClean on that same stretch of
road in town. Connected?

Apparently not.

Found a report off that same stretch of highway only months before the boy started to be seen. A driver swore he saw a little boy walking on the road only miles before reporting the drunken swervings of another driver going in the opposite direction. Reported the incident only because he noticed some damage on Henson's truck the next day as well as some strange behavior.

The problem was that little Harrison went missing in the next county over, so no one connected the dots.

Little Harrison is a death omen - spirits appearing to people to warn them off their doom which would be every reckless driver on highway 66. The problem is that the boy no longer distinguishes right from wrong - he's no longer just warning them, he's causing accidents. That means I have to stop him.

Desmond Dekker(16 July 1941 – 25 May 2006) was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae singer-songwriter and musician. Together with his backing group, The Aces, he had one of the first international Jamaican hits with "Israelites". Before the ascent of Bob Marley, Dekker was one of the most popular musicians within Jamaica, and one of the best-known musicians outside it.
What most people didn't know was that he was a Houngan, a Haitian Vodun priest.

Dekker and my father had been colleagues apparently.
Guess what kind of stuff they traded?

DaVinci had a drawing of a giant crossbow, but the actual weapon was never made.
At least, I don't think so.

Dekker left my father a chest of weapons and old parchment pieces of paper. Among the weapons is a stiletto blade that gives me the willies and a crossbow that looks a lot like the drawing depicted.

Most lore about zombies has been misinterpreted or completely ignored in favor of making it accessible to the paying youth as horror flicks.

What hasn't been lost is how to deal with them, even if Hollywood has gotten the details a little mixed up.

Zombies are killed by staking them

Reno - 10 June 2006 String of Bizarre Deaths Baffle Officials.
Seven people have died of heart-attacks outside casinos, clubs and bars along Reno's strip. All fairly young in age and without previous known heart conditions.

Sounds like a vengeful spirit,
but is it attacking randomly?

Vengeful spirits loose their ability to think in shades of grey after a while. For some reason, this thing as going after young party-goers and causing heart attacks.

The only way to stop these poor suckers is to salt and burn the bones.

Victims have nothing in common - they didn't work together, play together or even know each other. Is the thing just picking people at random?

Freakin' feds! Watch that Morgan - dangerous.

Again, all the same - outside a bar/club/casino, died from a heart attack. Until we come to Chanery Ferris. Much older and the doctor ruled it a normal heart-attack. Except when his apparent health was taken into account.

Chanery Ferris, 55wm - 7/4/05 - Died at home

Hugh Clark, 33wm - 4/11/05 - Died in his car

Margerie Ferris Clark, 28wf - 10/11/04 - Died at home - first victim?

Hugh Clark was beating his wife - long history of it. All his and her friends knew, but no one did a thing. Margerie'd even gone to her father's to escape Hugh, but Chanery gave his daughter back. She died that night from a beating so bad her heart gave out. Paul Chang and Mike Harris, both friend of Hugh's on the force, covered it up. Each of the subsequent people that died had a connection to Margerie, knew of the beatings done by the husband and suspected the beatings done by the father.

Came across some interesting reports spanning the last half decade. A stretch of historic road on the Texas Panhandle seems to be claiming lives.
Taking Bo to check it out. Gonna be a long drive.

Saw Douglas Johanson about the call he made five years ago. Says he remembers the driver, a John Henson, a local drunk in McClean, but doesn't know who the boy was.
I'm not liking this town.

Finally tracked down Henson. He's been sober for - you guessed it - five years. He tearfully admitted to hitting a boy and burying his body out on that stretch of road. But drunk and out of it, he couldn't find where he'd buried the body.
Guess I'm going grave hunting.

Finally found the grave. A sad little site. Boy wouldn't appear to me, so I called him. Confused and sad he didn't understand that what he was doing was wrong.
But a good salt and burning will do the trick every time.

Got a call this morning from Wil. Dekker is dead. Heading to New York.

The funeral is tomorrow. Wil is really broken up about this. Wants to go with me to sift through Dekker's things. I told him he didn't need to, but I think he's got an inkling as to why I'm here.
Maybe Dekker told him what he was into?
This was left in my hotel room. Curious.

Dekker left my father a chest. I didn't know they were that close. Wil said it would be okay if I collected the thing for Michael, but what the heck am I supposed to do with it? It's not like I have room in my Jeep for it.
Wil's taking me tomorrow to get it.
There's something wrong there.

A friend from Nevada called. He's up near Reno, which is the only reason I'm even thinking about going.

There's a string of mysterious deaths found outside nightclubs in Reno. The police think they have some kind of serial killer on their hands, only they can't figure out how the perp is causing heart-attacks.

Police found another body. And the feds have been called in. The BAU? They profile killers.
Cops still think this is a serial killer. I'm gonna have to tread carefully here.

Almost caught on scene by a couple of the feds. Looked 'em up. Agent Hotchner and Morgan.
Hopefully they only think I'm a scared material witness and not a suspect.

Been laying low, doing research online and at the local library. Found first victim almost two years ago, as well as several other victims picked out along the year. Now there's a pattern.

FBI actually tracked me to Doug's house. Now I'm impressed.
Spoke to a Reid and Gideon. Reid is scary smart but its Gideon who's scary. Man knows things just by looking. But I can tell some things, too. They're hurting something fierce.
They asked why I was there, what I'd seen. I told them I saw something weird to gauge their reactions. Reid was intrigued. Gideon knew I was lying.
So glad I gave them Teenie's name instead of mine.

Reid caught it when I spoke to him of Margerie. Convinced JJ to let me talk to Garcia. Found out where Margerie's body was buried - the husband buried her out behind their house along with two other women. Salt and burned all three just in case.
