Supernatural – Dead In The Water

I was hot on the Wendigo’s trail, I just needed some way to distract it. Suddenly I noticed three guys and a girl cornered by it. *Shit!* I ran in and caught the wendigo from behind. A lighter and lighter fluid appeared in my hands and I poured the fluid on the creature and threw the lit lighter at it and it burst into flames. I turned around to see all of them staring at me. “How’d you do that?” One guy asked. “What?” I replied. “You know what! What are you, who are you!?” He asked. “I’m Melissa, you guys got names?” I replied. He stared at me for a moment obviously unsure. “I’m Dean, this is my brother Sam and this is Haley and her brother.” He finally answered. “Well Sam, Dean, take care of them for me” I said and ran off into the forest before they could catch me. “Wait!” I heard Dean yell in the distance. When I got to my hotel I fell into my bed and fell asleep pretty quickly. I heard ‘Back in Black’ Play on my phone. It was my alarm. I went over the road to a petrol station and grabbed a coffee and was about to go on my morning walk when suddenly I saw something, someone. Green eyes glared at me for a while and I couldn’t help but feel uneasy. A few seconds past and I’d had enough. I’d already paid and knew what I had to do. I ran as fast as I could. I looked back and found Dean far behind me. A few minutes past and I gave up, feeling bad for Dean and also wanting to know why he’d run all this way. It took him a couple of minutes to catch up. “Are you stalking me?” I said innocently. “You’re coming…with me.” Dean said breathlessly as he grabbed my arms and started walking me back to his car. “Hey! I’m not a child. I want some questions answered too so I’m not running again, of course if I did you wouldn’t catch me.” I said. He laughed and said, “You’re right I wouldn’t” The walk back to his car was pretty quiet. I saw his car and had to be impressed. “Whoa! Sweet ride!” I said rubbing my hand on the finish. Dean laughed and said “Yeah, it gets me where I need to go” Dean honked the horn to wake up Sam and he looked shocked. I laughed at his shocked face as he left the car. “Dean what’s goin’ on?” Sam asked still half asleep. “I want some answers.” He started, “How did you make the Lighter and fluid appear in your hands, what are you and should we be worried?” “Well when I was a baby my mum died in a fire in my nursery and my dad never recovered, when I asked him how I could make things appear and talk to people through their minds he just said I was crazy, I even started believing him, but then I did some research and found that there are others like me, ones with powers. They say that the yellow eyed demon killed my mum. I’m just a girl and yes you should be worried.” I said and laughed at their shocked faces. “Now I have some questions for you. Why did you run after me like that, why are you so shocked by all this and where the hell can I get a sweet ride like this?” I asked rubbing the finish again. “Well” Dean laughed, “My sweet ride is mine only, you aren’t gonna find another quite like this baby, I ran after you because I needed answers, hell I wanted answers and we’re shocked because that’s how our mum died.” He finished. “I thought I felt a connection. Dean that means you must have powers too.” I said shocked. “Umm…wrong guy.” He said looking over at Sam. “Yeah I knew that, Sam can you do anything?” I asked. *Why did I feel the connection with Dean, I always feel the connection to the guy that gets the powers!* “No nothing yet, Dean we gotta go to Wisconsin. Screw this, people could die.” Sam said. “Ah, alright well –“ I stopped dean before he could continue. “Take me with you. You know you could use me, I have information and I’m not about to let you guys walk away, besides I wanna see what this baby can do.” I said rubbing the finish for a third time. “Well, ah! I mean umm…Ok, ok you can come but stop rubbing her!” Dean said. I laughed and said, “I can’t make any promises and jumped into the back seat. “Take us to Wisconsin!” I yelled when Sam and Dean got into the car. A few hours into the drive I asked what this is about. They told me about a girl who drowned in a lake. Didn’t sound like much to me but I decided to give them the benefit. “Come on Dean!” I said “What! What did I do?” He asked and I laughed at his worried voice. “There’s a motel Please can we stop for a rest?” I begged and gave him puppy dog eyes. “Yeah alright, stop with the eyes, Sam does it better anyway. You’re right though, I’m tired.” “Cool!” I started as he pulled up at the motel. “So are we all ok to share?” I asked “You’re ok to share a room with us?” Sam asked looking concerned. “Relax Sam I can take care of myself, I can tell how much of a dog Dean is and I wont let him that close.” I said and turned to Dean grinning innocently. He glared at me before whacking me in the back of the head. “Bully!” I yelled and laughed at his face. “How are we gonna do this, I mean who’s sleeping with who?” Dean asked as we entered our room. “I don’t care you guys decide.” I said and went into the bathroom with my duffel bag. “I’m gonna get changed.” “Ok…umm, who gets an empty bed ‘cause I’m telling you I’m not gonna share a bed with my brother ‘cause that’s plain creepy” Dean said. I listened into there thoughts. “Ok I got it” Dean said holding his fist on his hand. I laughed at that and I think they heard me. “Ok winner gets the free bed” Sam said. They did it once and I laughed when I heard Sam saying to Dean, “You’re always with the scissors, poor predictable Dean!” and then I heard Dean’s voice whisper. “Best two out of three.” And I said to him in his mind [Oh very classy] and I put him off with that and he lost. He walked into the bathroom where I was getting changed. “Do you mind! This isn’t exactly what I’d call flirting Dean, Get out of here!” I yelled. “I will as soon as you promise to get out of my head! Thanks for screwing it up, I would’ve beaten him!” He yelled back. “Oh please you would’ve chosen scissors again” I said and turned around after getting changed. I walked past him staring at him with an innocent grin and he just glared back. “Nightie Night Dean!” I said later when we went to bed laughing at him. “Yeah, yeah!” Dean said. Dean and I woke up pretty early and decided we’d talk in our minds instead of out loud, so we wouldn’t wake up Sam. [Me: I thought you wanted me out of your mind] He laughed a little [Dean: That was because I couldn’t get into yours but now I know I can.] I laughed nearly falling off the bed. [Dean: Are you drunk?] [Me: No! I’ve never had more than a sip of beer, this is me in the morning.] Dean chuckled. [Dean: Ok now my goal is to get you drunk.] I glared at him [Me: Just try buddy!] [Dean: Don’t worry, I’ll find a way] He laughed and I pushed him making him fall off the bed but as he fell he grabbed my arm and pulled me with him. [Me: Dean…What are you doing?] I asked and he laughed [Dean: I dunno I thought you needed to be pulled to the ground] I glared at him [Me: Sorry buddy, I’m not interested] I got up and sat back on the bed. [Dean: …Yeah you are, I’ll prove it.] Dean sat up on the floor and thought hard about how to trick me. [Me: Umm…I’m still in here, I can tell how you’re gonna trick me.] [Dean: Get outta my head, it’s not fair!] I laughed at that. “Am I interrupting anything?” Sam said and I turned to see him sitting at his bed behind me. “No nothing, Dean just agreed to sleep on the floor from now on.” I said and laughed. “Hey! No fair, Dude I never said that!” Dean said panicked which made me laugh even more. “Are you drunk?” Sam asked me. “Why does everyone ask me that!?” I yelled and threw a pillow at both of them. We went to a diner to get some breakfast. I just finished eating and Dean was sitting next to me reading a circled newspaper article, and Sam was sitting across from me but he went to the bathroom. The Waitress came to the table. “Can I get you anything else?” She asked. Dean looked up at her and smiled. Sam came back as this was happening. “Just the check please.” He said. “Okay” The waitress said and walked away. “You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while.” Dean said pointing to the waitress in short shorts, walking into the kitchen. “That’s fun.” He finished. “Oh please she’s way out of your league.” I said laughing. Dean hit me over the head with the newspaper and then put it down in front of us. “Ok here’s the recap. Last week Sophie Carlton, 18, walks into the lake doesn’t walk out. Authorities dragged the water-Nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago.” He said. “A funeral?” I said looking confused. “They buried an empty coffin. For uh, closure or whatever.” Dean said. “Closure? What closure? People don’t just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them.” Sam said I looked at him, eyebrows raised. “Ok, Awkward. I’m gonna leave you two to chat and when I get back we’re going to lake Manitoc” I said and walked away a little but enough to still hear them talking. “Something you wanna say to me?” Dean said. “”The trail for dad, it gets colder everyday” “Exactly so what are we supposed to do?”
“I don’t know, something, anything”
“You know what? I’m sick of this attitude. You don’t think I wanna find dad as much as you do?” “Yeah, I know you do, it’s just-“ Sam started but Dean interrupted him. “I’m the one that’s been with him every single day for the past two years, while you’ve been off at college going to pep rallies. We will find Dad, but until then, we’re gonna kill everything bad between there and here. Okay?” Sam rolled his eyes, and the waitress walked by again which gave me time to sneak back to the table and sit down again.
“Ok, everyone vented some anger? I thought their might’ve been some cracked glasses but if that’s everything-“ I started but was cut off by Dean.
“Stop acting so smug, remember we can throw you out on the street.” I stared at their backs for a moment then yelled after them, “Can but wont!” We drove another hour and we were here.
“What?” I asked.
“You look tired, how much sleep did you get?” He asked. “Enough” I replied. [Dean: Yeah sure] [Me: Dean I swear to god I’m gonna punch you!] Dean quickly ran up the steps of the cabin and knocked on the door. A guy around our age came to the door. “Are you Will Carlton?” Sam asked. “Yeah, that’s me” the guy answered “Hi I’m Agent Ford, This is Agent Hamill and Agent Fisher of the U.S Wildlife service.” Dean began showing our badges. [Me: Smooth] he glared at me as I held in a laugh. “Mind if we ask you a few questions?” He finished. “No, not at all” Will said. He took us up by the lake. Sophie’s father was sitting in a bench on the dock of the lake. “She was about a hundred yards out. That’s where she got dragged down.” Will said. “Are you sure she didn’t just drown?” I asked. “Yeah. She was a varsity swimmer. She practically grew up on that lake. She was as safe out there as she was in her own bathtub.” He answered looking at the lake. “So, no splashing, no signs of any sort of distress?” Sam asked. “No, that’s what I’m telling you.” He said. “Did you see any shadows in the water? Maybe dark shapes breach the surface? Dean asked. “No again, she was very far out.” He said. “You ever see any tracks by the shore line?” Dean asked. “No, never. Why? What do you thinks out there?” Will started. “We’ll let you know as soon as we do” Sam said. Dean and I started walking towards the car when Sam spoke. “What about your father? Can we talk to him?” He asked. “Look, if you don’t mind…I mean…he didn’t see anything and he’s been through a lot” Will replied. “We understand” Sam said. We all walked back to the car and I decided to break the silence. “Where from here boys?” I asked. “Sheriff’s office” Sam said. “Now I’m sorry but why does the wildlife service care about an accidental drowning?” The sheriff, we found out earlier named Jake asked. “You sure it’s an accident? Will Carlton says he saw something grab his sister.” Sam said. “Like what?” Jake asked. We followed him into his office. He motioned us to chairs. “Here, sit please. There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake. There’s nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Loch Ness Monster.” Dean laughed, “Yeah…sure.” “Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still, we dragged that entire lake. We ran a sonar sweep just to be sure, and there was nothing down there.” Jake said. “That’s weird though, I mean that’s…what, the third missing body this year.” I said. “I know, these are my friends, anyway,” Jake sighed, “All this wont be much of a problem a lot longer.” “What do you mean?” Dean asked. “Well the dam of course” Jake replied. “Of course …the dam…it’s uh…it’s sprung a leak.” Dean said. I rolled my eyes at him. [Me: Idiot] [Dean: Well I’m trying. It’s not like you’re making this easier!] I just smiled innocently as he glared at me. “It’s falling apart, and the feds won’t give us the grant to repair it, so they’ve opened the spillway. In another six months there won’t be much of a lake. There won’t be much of a town for that matter. But as Federal Wildlife, you already knew that” Jake said. “Exactly.” Dean said. I tried to hold in my laugh. We heard a tapping on the door and turned to see a young lady. “Sorry, am I interrupting? I can come back later.” She said. “Everyone, this is my daughter.” Jake said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you I’m Dean” Dean said shaking her hand. “Andrea Bar. Hi.” “They’re from the wildlife service about the lake.” Jake said. “Oh.” She said and a small boy walked in from around Andrea. “Oh, hi there. My name’s Melissa. What’s your name?” I asked him. The little boy walked away without speaking and Andrea went to follow him. [Dean: Well done.] [Me: What, he’s cute.] “His name is Lucas.” Jake said. Lucas and Andrea went into another room. Andrea was giving him a box with something inside. “Is he ok?” Sam asked. “My grandson’s been through a lot. We all have. Well if there is anything else I can do for you, please, don’t hesitate to ask.” Jake said. The four of us started to leave, out to the area where Andrea and Lucas were. “Thanks. You know what, know that you mention it, could you point us in the direction of a decently priced hotel.” Dean asked. “Lakefront motel, go around the corner, it’s about two blocks south.” Andrea said. “Two blocks…would you mind showing us?” Dean asked. I rolled my eyes. [Me: Ok now’s when you think of your pick up line, so you don’t stall later.] I tried to hold back a laugh as he glared at me. Dean turned back to Andrea and smiled, Andrea laughed. “You want me to walk you two blocks?” She asked. “Not if it’s any trouble.” I said trying to help Dean a little. “I’m headed that way anyway. I’ll be back to pick up Lucas at three.” She said turning to her father. She turned to Lucas. “We’ll go to the park, ok sweetie?” she said and kissed him on the head. “Thanks again.” Sam said to Jake. We’re walking down the pathway to the hotel. “So…cute kid” Dean finally said breaking the silence. “Thanks.” “Kids are the best, huh?” Andrea just ignored Dean and walked a little bit further. “There it is, like I said. Two blocks.” We all looked over at the building. “Thanks.” I said. Andrea turned to Dean. “Must be hard with your sense of direction, finding a way to a decent pick up line. Enjoy your stay!” Andrea said and walked away. I laughed at Dean and he shoved me. “Come on man that was cold. You should have listened to me in the office and found one then.” I said. “And kids are the best? You don’t even like kids.” Sam said. “I love kids.” Dean said. “Name three kids that you even know” I said. Dean tried to think and we walked ahead of him. Dean scratched his head. “I’m thinking.” “Don’t bother, you can’t think anyway.” I laughed at him and he pushed me into Sam. In the hotel room Sam is on his laptop. I was sitting on the bed listening to my iPod. Dean was sitting next to Sam looking at the laptop. “So there’s the three drowning victims this year.” Sam said. “Any before that?” Dean asked. “Six more spread out over the last thirty five years.” I called out much too loud because I was speaking over the music. They looked at me with their eyebrows raised. “What? I read.” I said. They turned back around. “Those bodies were never recovered either. If there is something out there, it’s picking up it’s pace.” Sam finished what I said. “So what are we saying? A lake monster on a binge from its usual diet?” I started, “You’re right that would’ve worked if I kept it simpler.” “This whole lake monster thing bugs me.” Sam said. “Why?” I asked. “Loch Ness, uh, Lake Champlain…there are hundreds of eyewitness accounts, But here, almost nothing. Whatever this is, no one’s living to talk about it.” Dean pointed at the screen.
“Wait. Bar, Christopher Bar. Where have I heard that name before?” Dean asked. Sam started reading from the page.
“Christopher Bar, the victim from May. Oh…Christopher Bar was Andrea’s husband. Lucas’ father and apparently, he took Lucas out swimming. Lucas was on a floating wooden platform when Chris drowned…two hours before the kid got rescued. Maybe we have an eye witness after all” “No wonder the kid was so freaked out, watching a parent die isn’t something you just get over.” I said Taking the head phones out of my ears. We went to the park and found Andrea sitting on a bench, watching Lucas playing. “Can we join you?” Sam asked. “I’m here with my son.” She said. “Oh…mind if I say hi?” without waiting for her answer Dean walked over to him. I smiled at Andrea. “I’m gonna go make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.” I ran after him. “Tell your friend his whole ‘Jerry Maguire’ thing’s not gonna work on me.” Andrea said to Sam. “I don’t think that’s what this is about.” Sam said. “How’s it goin’?” Dean said to Lucas, kneeling down to the table he was colouring on. Lucas had toy soldiers set up on the table. I kneeled down next to Dean as he grabbed one of the toy soldiers. “Oh, I used to love these things.” Dean said making gun noises and pretended the toy was shot, throwing it in the air. I giggled at that and Dean looked at me for a second, half glaring half smiling. “So crayons is more your thing, that’s cool. Chicks dig artists.” Dean said turning back to Lucas. I looked at the piles of paper. He drew a huge black swirl and a red bicycle. “Hey these are pretty good. You mind if I sit and draw with you?” Dean asked picking up a crayon and a blank piece of paper. “Ooh! Me too!” I said trying to sound excited and grabbing a pad of paper. “You know, I’m thinking you can hear me, you just don’t wanna talk. I don’t know exactly what happened to your dad, but I know it was something really bad. I think I know how you feel. When I was your age I saw something…anyway…well maybe you don’t think anyone will listen to you, or uh…or believe you. I want you to know that we will. You don’t even have to say anything, you could draw me a picture about what you saw that day with your dad on the lake. Ok no problem. Here this is for you” Dean said giving him the picture he drew. “This is my family. That’s my dad, that’s my mum, that’s my geek brother and…that’s me.” I handed him mine. “And this is my family. My Mum, Dad, My annoying sister and Me” I said. “Show off, alright so I’m a sucky artist, seeya around Lucas.” Dean said and we walked away. We looked back to see Lucas looking at our pictures. “You know, you may hate kids but you’re really good with them, it was cute.” I said grinning innocently. “Yeah, yeah” Dean said and whacked me on the back of the head. “Why do you always do that?” I asked. “Why do you always do things that make me wanna do that?” Dean replied. “Lucas hasn’t said a word, not even to me-Not since his dad’s accident.” Andrea said. “Yeah we heard. Sorry” Dean said. “What are the doctors saying?” Sam asked. “That it’s a kind of post-traumatic stress.” “That can’t be easy for either of you.” Dean said. “We moved in with my dad. He helps out a lot. It’s just…when I think about what he went through and what he saw…” “Kids are strong, you’d be surprised with what they can deal with” I said. “You know he used to have such life. He was hard to keep up with, to tell you the truth. Now he just sits there. Drawing those pictures and playing with those army men. I wish…”Andrea stopped that thought as Lucas walked up. “Hey sweetie.” Lucas handed Dean and I a picture. He gave Dean the red bike and me a picture of a house. “Thanks.” “Thanks Lucas.” Lucas walked back over to the table. I was lying down next to Dean listening to ‘Wayward Son’ on my iPod and humming with it. “What are you listening to?” Dean asked. “Carry on my wayward son.” I said grinning. “Give me an ear” He said yanking one of the plugs from my ear. We lied there for ten minutes listening to my music and Sam came through the door. “Hey dude, you’ve gotta try her iPod she has the best music.” Dean said. “Not now. We can rule out Nessie.” Sam said. “What, why?” I asked turning off my iPod. “Oh, dude!” Dean moaned. “I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there…Will Carlton’s dead” Sam said. “He drowned?” I started, “Now before we get into the moral issue I’d just like to ask Dean a question…Why does he get to drive but I don’t!?” I asked. “Because, I can trust him! So if he drowned why are we ruling out Nessie?” Dean asked. “Because, he drowned in the sink.” Sam said. “What the hell?” I said. “So you’re right this isn’t a creature, we’re dealing with something else.” Dean said. “Well then what are we dealing with?” I asked. “I don’t know, A water wraith maybe? Some kind of demon? I mean, something that controls water…water that comes from the same source.” Sam answered.
“The lake.” Dean said.
“Which would explain why more and more are being killed, the lake is draining, it’ll be dry in a few months. Whatever this thing is, whatever it wants, it’s running out of time and it knows it.” I said. “And if it can get through the pipes, it can get almost anywhere. This is gonna happen again and soon.” Dean said. “And we do know one other thing for sure, we know it’s got something to do with Bill Carlton.” “Yeah it took both his kids” Dean said “And I’ve been asking around. Lucas’ dad, Chris…Bill Carlton’s godson.” Sam said. “Let’s go pay Mr. Carlton a visit” I said. We went back to the lake and saw Mr. Carlton on the bench on the dock. We walked over to him. “Mr. Carlton…we’d like to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind.” Sam said sounding sincere. “We’re from the department-“ Dean started and I whacked him on the head. [Me: Do you really think a man in his position cares!?] [Dean:…He Might.] “I don’t care who you’re with. I’ve answered enough questions today.” I gave Dean an ‘I told you so’ look and he just rolled his eyes. “Your son said he saw something in that lake. What about you? You ever see anything out there? Sophie’s drowning and Will’s death, we think they’re connected to you or your family.” Sam said. “My children are gone. It’s…it’s worse than dying. Go away, please.” We walked back to the car. “What do you think?” Sam asked. “I think the poor guys been through hell.” Dean started. “I also think he’s not telling us something.” I said finishing his thought. I stopped in front of the house. “What is it?” Sam asked. “Maybe Bill’s not the only one who knows something.” I said pulling out the picture Lucas drew for me. It looked a lot like the Carlton’s house. We drove back to Andrea and her father’s house. “I’m sorry I just don’t think it’s a good idea.” Andrea said. “We just need to talk to him for a few minutes” I said. “He wont say anything, what good is talking to him gonna do?” Andrea said. “Andrea we think more people will get hurt. We think something’s happening out there.” Sam said. “My husband, the others…they just drowned that’s all” “If that’s what you really believe we’ll go. But if you think there’s even the slightest chance that something else could be going on here then you’ll let us talk to your son.” Dean said. Andrea led us up the stairs to Lucas’ room. He was colouring with his toy soldiers set up around him. Dean and I walked into the room whilst Sam and Andrea stayed in the doorway. “Hey Lucas. You remember us?” Dean asked. I noticed that Lucas had drawn a few more pictures of the red bike. *What are you trying to tell us Lucas?* “You know I, uh, I wanted to thankyou for that last drawing…but the thing is Lucas, I need your help again.” Lucas was colouring what looked like a person in water. Dean opened up the picture of the house that Lucas drew for me [Me: Hey you stole my picture] [Dean: I’m sorry but how else am I supposed to talk to this kid?] [Me: Whatever] He put the picture down in front of Lucas. “How did you know to draw this? Did you know something bad was gonna happen?” I asked. “Maybe you could nod yes or no for us. You’re scared. It’s ok, we understand. See when I was your age, I saw something really bad happen to my mum, and I was scared too. I didn’t wanna talk to anyone, just like you. But, my mum…I know she’d want me to be brave and I think about that everyday. I do my best to keep brave. Maybe…maybe your dad wants you to be brave too.” Dean said. “Same with me Lucas. My mum died when I was young, it sent my dad into a tail spin. My sister walked out and it felt like I was all alone but then after a while I’d think about my mum, about how she’d always want me to be brave, no matter the situation…and…I do.” I said looking to the floor. When I finally looked up I saw Dean’s green eyes staring at me. [Me: What?] [Dean: We’re definitely having a talk later.] I looked over and saw Lucas was looking at us. He handed Dean a picture of a whole town, with a church, a house and a boy with a red bike and he handed me another picture of the Bike. “Thanks Lucas.” I said. We’re in the car trying to figure out what the pictures mean. “Ok so Dean what did you wanna talk to me about?” I said putting him in an uneasy position. “Well…it’s umm…” Dean started. “Out with it man!” I yelled. “It’s two things. Firstly…what the hell happened in your childhood?” He asked. “Hmmm…lets see, my mum died in a fire, my dad blamed it on me, kept drinking his feelings away and my sister couldn’t handle it, she kept having fights with my dad until she finally left. I found out a little while later that I could do things…Weird things and that just made my dad blame me even more for my mum’s death and he said that I was the insane one. I was stuck having to deal with the nut job that was my father until finally I’d had enough too. So you know a pretty average childhood.” I said. “Ok…sounds rough” Dean said. “Oh but of course I’m understating.” I said looking down at the Impala door. “Ok well…secondly…You have a sister? Oh that one cracks me up. What’s her name and what’s she like?” Dean asked grinning. “Her name’s Rebecca and she isn’t your type…she’s probably more your brothers type. You know, she left home to go to college and learn stuff we’ll never really need to know.” I said and we both laughed. “Anyway, Andrea said that the kid never drew like this until after his dad died” Sam said. “There are cases where going through a traumatic even can make people more sensitive to psychic tendencies.” I said. “Whatever’s out there, maybe Lucas is tapping into it somehow. I mean it’s only a matter of time before someone else drowns.” Dean said, I gave him a look. “If you’ve got any better leads, please.” “All right, we have…another house to find. The only problem is there’s about a thousand yellow two-story houses in just this country.” I said. “See this church? I bet there’s less than a thousand of those around here.” Sam said. “Oh college boy thinks he’s so smart.” I laughed at Dean and said, “Ooh Burn.” And we both laughed. “You know…what you said about mum…you never actually told me any of that stuff before.” Sam said. “It’s no big deal……Oh god, we don’t a\have to hug do we?” I laughed again. “Aww, come on Dean I wanna see a brotherly hug…especially from you…of all people” I said laughing. Dean kicked my leg and I just kept laughing. We found the church in the picture. Dean held up the picture and looked at it. We saw the yellow house next to it. We went inside, speaking to the owner. “We’re sorry to bother you ma’am but does a little boy live here, by chance? He would’ve had a red bicycle and might’ve worn a blue cap.” I asked. “No miss. Not for a very long time. Peter…he’s been gone for thirty five years now. The police never…I never knew for sure what happened. He just disappeared. Losing him…you know…it’s…it’s worse than dying” She said. I saw a bunch of toy soldiers set out on a table. I touched Dean’s hand to let him know and felt something for a brief second but shook it off. “Did he disappear from here, I mean from this house?” Dean asked. “He was supposed to ride his bike straight home after school, but he…he never showed up.” Dean picked up a picture from the lady’s table and looked at it. There were two boys in it, one with a red bicycle. He turned it over to see writing on the back. “Peter Sweeney and Billy Carlton, 1970” He read aloud. Dean and I looked at each other. We got back in the Impala and were on our way to Bill’s house. “Ok this little boy, Peter Sweeney, vanishes and this is all connected to Bill Carlton somehow.” Sam said. “Yeah he sure as hell seems to be hiding something…” I said. “And Bill, the people he loves, they’re all getting punished.” Dean said. “So what if Bill did something to Peter?” Sam asked. “What if Bill killed him?” I said. Dean sped up. “I think he did kill him.” He said. “How very comforting!” I said. We stopped at the Carlton driveway and I ran. “What’s going on!?” Dean called out behind me. “Something doesn’t feel right!” I yelled back. As I got closer to the dock I heard an engine revving and saw Bill Carlton going out onto the lake in his boat. I ran out onto the dock with Sam and Dean close behind. We yelled out to him, “Mr. Carlton! Come out of the water! You need to come back to shore! Turn the boat around!” Suddenly the water rose up and flipped his boat upside down, he was gone. I turned to Dean and hugged him trying to forget what had just happened. “I just wanna say with no morals about what happened getting into this…you just helped me prove you like me.” He whispered in my ear and grinned a little. I looked up at him, ”Jackass!” and I kneed him in the groin, walking back to the car. Sam laughed at Dean crouching over.
“God! Ok she’s strong. Help me to the car.” Dean said and Sam just kept laughing at him. When they finally came to the car I was sitting on the bonnet with my head in my hands.
“Get off now!” Dean yelled at me. “No! You know what, you are a self serving ass! You don’t care about other people you just wanna get laid well guess what! I don’t give a crap about you I’ll never think of you like that and like it or not what you did out there was sick!” I said and jumped off the bonnet and got in the back. I felt bad for yelling at him…but he needed to hear it. [Dean: Sorry, It was stupid and wrong and I guess I just wanted to help you forget what just happened.] [Me: When will it get easier?] Dean just sat staring off as he started the car. We went back to Jake’s office. Dean, Sam, Jake and I walked in the door. “Dean, Sam, Melissa, I didn’t expect to see you here.” Andrea said. “So now you’re on a first name basis” Jake turned to Andrea, “What are you dong here?” “I brought you dinner.” She said giving him a paper bag filled with the meal she’d prepared. “I’m sorry sweetheart I don’t really have the time.” Jake said still taking the bag from her hands. “I heard about Bill Carlton, is it true, is something really going on in the lake?” Andrea asked. “Well right now we don’t know for sure what the real truth is. Still I think it might be better if you and Lucas went home.” I heard Lucas whimper and he quickly grabbed tightly at Dean and my arm. “Lucas, What is it?” I said. “Lucas, it’s ok” Dean said. Andrea took him outside. “Just so I’m completely clear on this…You all saw something attack Bill’s boat, who I happen to know is a very good swimmer by the way, into the drink…and you never see him again?” Jake asked. “Yeah that’s about it.” Dean said. “How am I supposed to believe this knowing that not only have I sonar-swept that entire lake and what you’re describing is impossible but also because you aren’t really Wildlife Service?” Dean looked surprised at that and slightly worried. “That’s right Dean, I checked you three out and no one up there has ever heard of you.” “See umm…we can explain that.” I said. “Enough please! The only reason you are all still breathing free-air is that one of Bill’s neighbours saw him steering out that boat just before you did. So we have a couple of options here. I can arrest you for impersonating government officials and hold all three of you as material witnesses to Bill Carlton’s disappearance. Or we can chalk it all up to a bad day, you get in your car, put this town into your rear view mirror and never darken my doorstep again.” “Door number two sounds good” Dean said. “That’s the one I’d go for.” Jake said. We got in the car again and were at a stop light when my phone rang. “Who is it?” Dean asked. “It’s Lucas but I gave my number to him for emergencies and since when is he talking?” I picked up the phone and held it to my ear. “Hello…Lucas what’s going on?...Lucas talk to me…oh my god we’re coming Lucas!” I hung up and yelled at Dean to turn the car around.
“What the hell’s going on!?” Dean yelled.
“Lucas still isn’t talking but he held the phone up…I heard Andrea screaming and splashing in the background. Come on hurry up!” I said The moment we got to the house Lucas was at the door panting. He ran up the stairs to the bathroom door. We all ran after him and found water pouring out from underneath. Dean tried but couldn’t kick it down so I helped, kicking it at the same time we finally got it down and ran into the room. Dean stuck his hands in the water and groaned as he tried to pull Andrea from the bathtub. He finally got her head out, gasping for air but her head was pulled back in, this time I helped him pull her out. We kept pulling until finally she came completely out and onto the floor coughing up water. Sam and Andrea sat on the couch while Dean and I were going through some bookshelves and some notebooks. “Can you tell us” Sam asked and I looked over for a moment but went back to the notebook. “No it doesn’t make a bit of sense…I’m going crazy.” she said crying. “What did it say?” “It…it said…it said ‘come play with me’. What’s happening?” I pulled out a scrapbook and Dean walked over and looked at the cover. ‘Jake – 12 years old’. I opened the book and found something. I closed it and turned around to show it to the others. Dean followed me and I glared at him. [Dean: What?] [Me: Do you mine, stop following me!] I lied it down on the table opened to a picture of a Boy Scout troop. “Do you recognise any of the kids in this picture?” I asked. “Huh? Umm…no I mean, except that one’s my dad, right there. He must have been around 11 or 12 in these pictures.” She pointed to a different picture of him and saw him standing next to Peter Sweeney. “So…Chris Bar’s drowning…it was connected to the sheriff, not Bill Carlton.” Dean said. “The sheriff…and Bill…they were both involved with Peter.” Sam said. “My dad - what about Chris? What are you talking about?” Andrea asked obviously worried. I noticed Lucas staring out side “…Lucas, what’s wrong?” I said. Lucas opened the door and walked outside. We all followed close behind.
“Lucas?...Honey?” Andrea asked. He stopped and looked at the ground and then back up at me. *Thank you! Know I understand.*
“You and Lucas get back up to the house and stay there ok?” I told her. She nodded and took him away. “What’s up?” Dean asked.
“I finally get it.” I started and made 2 shovels appear in each hand and handed them to Sam and Dean and then another appeared in mine. “Start digging…trust me.” I said and we dug. It took a few minutes but finally we found it…Peter’s red Bike.
“Who are you!?” Jake yelled holding a gun at us as we turned around to see him. “Put the gun down Jake.” Sam said slowly. “How did you know it was there?” He asked.
“What happened-you and Bill kill Peter, drowned him in the lake and then buried his bike? You can’t bury the truth Jake…You should know that nothing stays buried.” Dean said. Andrea came out and saw him holding a gun at us. She turned to Lucas and said, “Go to your room and stay there sweetie. Go now, lock the door and wait for me but don’t come out.” Lucas ran up to his room.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Jake said “You and Bill killed Peter Sweeney thirty five years ago. That’s what I’m talking about.” Andrea came running up. “Dad!” “And now you have one seriously pissed off spirit on your hands!” I yelled. “It’s gonna take Andrea, Lucas, every person you love. It’s gonna drown all of them. And it’s gonna drag all of their bodies god knows where, so that you feel the same pain as Peter’s mum feels. After that it’ll take you and it won’t stop until it does.” Sam said. “Yeah? How do you know that?” Jake asked. “Because that’s exactly what happened to Bill Carlton.” Dean said. “Listen to your selves, all of you…you’re all insane.” “I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think of us. If we wanna bring down the spirit then we have to find the remains, salt them, burn them into the dust and please don’t tell me that that you just let him go in the lake, please tell me you buried him.” Dean said. Suddenly I heard a voice saying, “Come play with me” I followed the voice. Dean and Sam stayed with Jake and Andrea, trying to reason. Where was it coming from? “Lucas!” I heard Andrea scream. *Oh hell no!* I turned and saw Lucas on the dock reaching for something. My eyes widened as I saw a blue hand grab Lucas’ and drag him under. I jumped in after him and could see Peter taking him under but he got too far and I had to come back for air. Dean and Sam had just jumped in “Did you get him?” Dean asked. “No, I’m gonna try again.” I said and Dean and I went down at the same time, keeping up with each other. Jake was above the water but slowly wading in. “Peter, Peter if you can here me I’m sorry. I’m so…so, so sorry. He’s just a little boy though, please take me!” He yelled out. Sam swam towards him but it was too late. Peter took him down. Dean and I grabbed onto Lucas as we saw him coming back up towards us and we got him to the surface. We left our hotel and were packing the car when Andrea and Lucas came over. “Sam, Dean, Melissa.” “Hey.” Dean said. I rolled my eyes [Me: Got your pick up line ready?] he just smiled and slapped my head. “We’re glad we caught you, we uh, just made you lunch for the road.” Andrea said pointing to the tray Lucas was carrying. “Lucas insisted on making the sandwiches himself.” “Can I give it to them now?” Lucas asked and Andrea smiled and kissed his head. “Of course.” “Come on Lucas We’ll help Dean load it into the car.” I said smiling. “How you holding up?” Sam asked. “It’s…just gonna take a long time to sort through it all you know?” “Andrea I’m sorry.” Sam said. “You saved my son. I can’t ask you any more. Dad loved me and I know he loved Lucas. No matter what he did, that’s the part we’re going to hold on to.” Dean and Lucas put the sandwiches in the car. “All right well if you’re gonna be talking now, this is a very important phrase so I want you to repeat it to me once more.” Dean said. “Zeppelin rules!” Lucas yelled. “That’s right, up high.” He gave Lucas a high five. “Wow Dean…you’re such a dork” I laughed and he just rolled his eyes. “Take care of your mum, ok?” I said to Lucas. “Okay.” He said. Andrea came up and kissed Dean and I glared for a moment but quickly turned away. “Thank you.” Andrea said. [Me: Hey look at that, you didn’t need that pick up line after all] I laughed. Dean sat there for a moment thinking about the kiss and then started the car. “Sam move your ass. We’re gonna run out of daylight before we hit the road.” He said. I smiled as Andrea and Lucas waved goodbye. Then we drove away. They dropped me off and that was the last I saw of them for almost a full year. Supernatural – Something Wicked I arrived at the hotel after a few days of keeping on the Shtriga’s trail. I couldn’t believe what I’d seen outside. It was the Chevy. I went in as fast as I could, wishing I could run but knowing if I did it would look stupid. There they were, Sam and Dean. “King or two queens?” The kid at the desk asked. I made sure Dean and Sam didn’t notice I was behind them. “Two queens.” Dean answered. “Yeah I bet.” The kid muttered. I laughed. [Me: Dean…I like that kid, he has spunk.] “Huh?” Dean looked confused at first. I hugged him from behind. “Did ya miss me roomy?” I said laughing at his shocked look. “Mel? What are you doing here?” Sam asked. “Uh, kid here, not really feeling up to saying it out loud.” I said [Me: On a Shtriga’s tail.] “She’s here for the same reason that we are.” Dean said looking over at Sam. “Ok well I’m rooming with you guys ‘cause I wanna catch up a little.” I said and laughed at Dean’s face. “That’s right Dean you have to share a bed again.” We went into the room and I jumped onto one of the beds. “So…Sammy! How you going with your whole powers stuff? Got anything going on in that area yet?” I asked grinning. “Yeah actually.” He said looking slightly uncomfortable. “Ooh! I wanna know! Tell me, tell me please!” I begged. “I, uh…I have visions…that come true.” Sam said. “Oh cool! I thought you would’ve gotten something worse, like I knew one girl…touched people and would kill them.” I said and made a beer appear in my hand. “Beer?” I offered. Sam turned it down but Dean took it. I made another appear in my hand for myself. “Hey I thought you’d never have more than a sip?” Dean asked taking a swig. “Yeah but since I met you and you told me your goal was to get me drunk my goal became to get drunk as many times as I could when you weren’t around. So you know, I can deal with a bottle or two.” I said laughing. “Any way, The Shtriga feed on ‘the breath of life’ which judging by what’s happening around here can only be taken from kids. Apparently they’re invulnerable so that’s gonna be annoying.” Sam said. “Not true Sam. They can be killed with consecrated wrought iron-” Dean cut me off. “And only when feeding.” He finished me. “Wow Dean, I don’t remember you being that much of a jerk. I can finish my own sentences” I said. “They take on an innocuous human disguise as an old woman when they’re not feeding.” Sam said. “There was an old lady at the hospital.” Dean said. “An old lady?” I asked pretending to be shocked. “Yeah.” “In a hospital? Better call the Coast Guard.” Sam said sarcastically and I laughed. “Well the cross on her wall was upside down.” Dean said. “I guess we could check into it.” I said. The next day we went to the hospital and Dean went and checked the old lady. I stayed outside on guard. He got to the other side of the room when the lady woke up and started yelling. “Are you stealing my stuff?! They’re always stealing my stuff. And fix that damn cross on my wall. I’ve asked three times for that to be done.” Dean jumped out of his skin and tapped the cross and it fell down the right way. I laughed so hard I nearly collapsed. Dean wiped his face and got out of there as soon as possible. “Now I remember why I missed Dean so much.” I said. “Sure it’s not ‘cause you want me?” He said looking smug. “You know, I honestly thought you would’ve matured into a man who doesn’t think of himself as a chick magnet but no same old Dean. You know what…wouldn’t have it any other way.” I said hugging him again and laughing at him. We went back to the hotel, both Sam and I still giving Dean a hard time. Dean noticed Michael (the boy at the desk). “What’s wrong?” He asked. “It’s my brother…he’s sick.” He replied. “Don’t worry he’ll be ok.” I said trying to make him feel better. “It was my fault.” He said. “Why?” “I accidentally left the window open, I swear I shut it but…I guess I didn’t.” Michael and his mum head for their car and went to the hospital. “Ok I swear I’m killing this son of a bitch.” Dean said. Dean went to the hospital while Sam and I tracked the creature through the newspaper reports across the country, hitting a new town every 15 years and killing kids for months. We found a photo from 1893 with a picture of Dr. Hydecker, the doctor in charge of the sick kids that the Shtriga attacked. Dean got back to the hotel. “Well knowing the way it’s acted so far it’s going after Michael next. What can we do?” Sam said pacing the room. “We gotta use him as bait.” Dean said looking sure. “Dean what the hell? I haven’t been with you for almost a year but I know that this isn’t you. What the hell is up with you? It’s just another gig” I asked looking concerned. “…I’m to blame. When we were on the trail of the Shtriga when we were kids, Dad left us alone and I stepped out of the hotel to get some air and play video games. When I came back…I saw the Shtriga feeding on you. I grabbed a gun and got ready to fire, but I was in the way and when dad opened fire it had enough time to get away. I figure dad sent us to finish the creature off and make up for my mistake.” “Oh god Dean…it wasn’t your fault. You were a kid. This isn’t your fault either…it’s the Shtriga’s.” I said reassuringly. Sam just stood there amazed at what he’d been told. We found Michael. “Hey Michael, you didn’t see anything last night?” Dean asked. “No…I mean I had a really bad and very vivid dream but that’s it.” He replied. “Michael…what did you see.” I asked. “I…I saw these long and pointy hands…they opened the window. I covered my eyes and went to sleep hoping it was just a dream…it wasn’t, was it?” He asked knowing the answer. “Michael, we need you to do the same as last night. It’s going to come for you. We need you to let it. We’ll be in the other room and we’ll kill it before it gets you, we promise.” Sam said. “No…I don’t wanna go through that again.” “Michael this is the only way we can save your brother. There’ll be cameras around the room and we’ll be right next door.” Dean said. Michael looked worried at first but finally agreed. We rigged up a camera in his room and had him get under the covers. We waited for hours until finally we spot the Shtriga at the window and it enters the room. It approaches Michael and prepares to feed off of him, and we barge in and opened fire as Michael dove out of the way and under the bed as we earlier told him to. We approached the creature but it leapt up and grabbed and threw us aside and started feeding off of Sam. “Sam! ...Dean quick!” I yelled out unable to get up from the Shtriga’s blow. “Go to hell!” Dean said to it. Dean got there just in time and blew it away, releasing all the energy contained within. The next morning we were packing up. “He’s all better now…all the kids are.” Michael’s mum, Joanna said. “That’s the best news I’ve heard all week.” I said smiling. “Dr. Hydecker’s disappeared though.” She said. “Probably couldn’t handle the job.” Dean said closing the boot properly before she had a chance to see the weaponry inside. She walked back to Michael and they went inside. “He’ll always know there are things out there in the dark, never be the same, you know? Sometimes I wish that...” Sam started. “What?” Dean asked. “I wish I could have that kind of innocents.” He finished. “If it means anything sometimes I wish you could too.” “Ok are we done with the kissy, kissy moment ‘cause I felt you should know that you’re stuck with me now. Where to from here?” I said getting in the car. We drove away to our next adventure Supernatural – Provenance Sam, Dean and I are in a bar. Sam’s sitting reading his dad’s journal while Dean tries to pick up some girls. I sat with Sam and a drink trying to help him out. “Do you have to put up with this everywhere you go?” I asked looking over to Dean. “Pretty much. Can you get him over here?” Sam asked. “Your wish is my command.” I said grinning. [Me: Alright Romeo, that’s enough we need you over here.] [Dean: You’ve gotta be kidding me.] [Me: Nope.] Dean walked over to our table. “Ok, so we think we have something.” Sam started. “Yeah me too, I think we should take a little shore leave. Just a little bit.” Dean said. “So what are we today Dean? Rock stars? Safari Rangers?” Sam asked. “LA TV scouts.” Dean said. “Oh Dean, that’s just pathetic. You actually have to lie to pick up a girl.” I said laughing. “Well Sam she has a friend over there I can probably hook you up.” He said taking a sip of his beer. “Dean, thanks but I can get my own dates.” “Yeah, you can but you don’t. What’ve you got?” “Mark and Anne Tilesca in upstate New York were both found dead in their home, just a few days ago. Throats were slit, there were no prints, no murder weapons and all doors and windows were locked from the inside.” I said. “Could just be our garden variety murder, not our problem.” “No, Dad says differently. He noticed three murders in the same area of upstate New York. First one 1912, second in 1945 and one in 1970. The same MO as the Tilesca’s, their throats were slit, doors and windows locked from the inside. So much time past between each murder that nobody checked the pattern except for dad.” Sam said. “Alright I’m with you, it’s worth checking out. We can’t pick this up ‘till first thing right?” Dean asked. “No.”
“Good.”
Dean quickly went back over to the two girls. The next morning Sam and I went to check the house. We came back to the car where Dean was asleep. Sam pressed the horn and Dean jumped up. Sam and I laughed. “Man, that is so, not cool.” Dean said sleepily. “We just swept the house with the EMF, it’s clean. Last night while you were ‘out’” Sam started. “Good times.” Dean smiled. “I checked the history for the house. No haunting, no violent crimes, nothing strange about the Tilesca’s either.” “…Where was Mel last night?” He asked. “I was back with Sam, stayed up most of the night” “Wow, you really do have sad lives.” Dean said. “Oh, please. You need to lie to pick up a girl if that’s not sad I don’t know what is.” I said. “Alright well if it’s not the people and not the house, maybe it’s the contents. Cursed object or something.” Dean said. “The house is clean.” Sam said. “Yeah I know, you said that.” “No we mean it’s empty. No furniture, nothing.” I said. “Where’s all their stuff?” Dean asked. “At an estate sale. Come on let’s go. Time to take a glimpse into upper-class.” I said. Dean took a wine from a waiter at the sale. “They actually have wine?” I said. We looked around for the painting that Sam had a picture of to go by. We finally found it when a girl came down the stairs and spoke to Sam. Dean and I left them alone and went over to talk about how to get rid of the painting.
“Let’s just sneak in a burn it.” I said.
“Maybe…is it really gonna be that simple?” “Why not, it’s been that simple before.” “Are you sure you’re not drunk now?” “Dean pay attention. God, we’ll go tonight it’s the best thing we can do.” Sam came over and we left, Sarah (Sam later told us) was the daughter of the art house owner. He kicked us out. At the hotel Dean sat on the bed, sharpening a knife. I sat on the other bed. There was an awkward silence. “Should I tell him?” I asked Dean. “Actually yeah, he’ll take it better from you.” “Ok, Sam we need you to call Sarah, go on a date with her and milk her for information.” I said bluntly. “No, no, no. Pickups are your thing Dean.” “It wasn’t my butt she was checking out.” “Why are you trying so hard to get me laid?” “Why are you trying so hard to not get laid?” After a while I talked him into it and they went out that night. Dean and I stayed back and I made two six-packs appear. “How do you think he’s doing?” I asked. “Are you kidding? Sam is hopeless at this sort of thing.” After a few hours I was officially drunk…that’s when it all went wrong. “Yes! I actually got you drunk.” Dean said happy to finally reach his goal. “Damn you Dean! You’re gonna pay…I don’t know how though.” I slurred. “So are you a mean drunk, happy drunk, one of those ones who tells people things they don’t want people to know?” “You know Dean…I’ve never had the guts to tell anyone that I like them…not even when I’m drunk. I never told that guy Pete, or you or even Al. I guess I’m a big scaredy cat.” I slurred not realising what I’d said. “What?” Dean said looking shocked. “You get confused!” I laughed. “Ok you, time for bed.” He said and dragged me over to the bed. “What’s in it for me?” I slurred. Dean hesitated trying to come up with a good come back but still couldn’t get passed what I’d said earlier. He gave up and suddenly, as he put me in the bed he kissed me. Nothing more than a peck but enough to make blush all over. I quickly covered myself, hiding the blush and said, “This is my bed for the night. …Sleep somewhere else.” I woke up a few hours later, groaning. “Ugh! What’s the time?” I asked still moaning. “About 3.15am.” Sam said. I noticed Dean looking over at me with a big grin on his face. “What?” “Nothing.” I threw a pillow at him. “Then stop staring at me. “I did it Sam…I got her drunk.” “I can see that. Wanna go through this with her?” “Lets hope she keeps up with it. So she just handed the Provenences over to him” Dean said. “Prove-NAN-ces. We went back to her place, I got a copy of the papers” Sam said. “When this is done we can stick around for a little bit. So you can take her out again. I mean, it’s obvious you’re into her. Even Mel can see that.” “Go to hell.” I said. “Back at ya” Dean said. “I think I’m gonna be sick.” I ran into the bathroom almost tripping over on the way. “That’s pathetic.” Dean said. “I think I’ve got something here.” Sam said. “Portrait of Isaiah and his family, painted 1910.” Dean read. “Now compare the names of the owners with dad’s journal.” “First purchased in 1912 by Peter Simms, Peter Simms murdered 1912. Same thing in 1945, oh, same thing in 1970.” “Then stored, until it was donated to a charity auction, where the Telesca’s bought it. So what do you think…it’s haunted or cursed?” “Either way it’s toast. Hey Mel! We gotta go come on.” Dean yelled out. “Give me a minute!” I yelled back from the other side of the door. I brushed my teeth and then came out and we drove off to get the painting. We found it in the estate house and took outside. We burnt it ‘till nothing was left but a frame. “You know this actually helped my hangover.” I said. “Whatever. …Remembering anything yet?” He said grinning. [Me: I’m not talking to you anymore…Sam’s my new wing man.] [Dean: You want me. I told you so.] [Me: Sam how can I live down something I told Dean when I was drunk?] [Sam: Dude, give up. Dean never lets you live it down.] We went back to the hotel to let me sleep for the rest of the night. “I can’t find my wallet.” Dean said that morning. “So?” I said. “So, I might’ve dropped it last night when we were burning that thing. It’s got my money, my IDs, well my fake IDs…” “Damn it Dean!” Sam said. We went back to the estate sale and looked for his wallet. Sarah came out to talk to Sam. “Hi” Sam said awkwardly. “Oh Sam, I forgot, I owe you twenty bucks from the other night.” Dean said getting his ‘lost’ wallet out of his jeans and giving him the note. I overheard Sam and Sarah talking as Sam got louder in shock of seeing the painting that we burned being brought in.
“Oh My God!“ He yelled.
“What?” She asked, shocked.
“Uh... that painting... looks so good.”
“If you can call that monstrosity good, then, yeah... I guess.”
“So, what do you know about that painting?” He asked.
“Not much, just that it creeps me out. We sold it to the Telesca’s at a charity auction the night they were murdered.”
And you're just gonna sell it again?” He asked.
“As much as my dad wants to, no. I won't let him. I think it'd be in bad taste.” She said.
Good. Yeah, you know what? Don't, don't, make sure you don't, okay?” he said
Why? Don't tell me you're interested in that. “She said
“No, no, God, no, not in buying it, no. You know what? I gotta go, I've gotta take care of something. But I will call you back. I will call you. I'll see you later.” Sam said.
“I don't understand, Dean. We burned the damn thing!” Sam said, trying to work it out.
“Yeah, thank you, Captain Obvious.” Dean said.
Sam looked at the painting carefully and noticed something. “He’s moved.” Sam said showing us a picture. “So you think Daddy dearest is trapped in the painting and handing out Columbian neckties like he did with the rest of his family?” Dean asked. “Yeah it seems like it. But if his bones are already dusted how are we gonna stop him?” “All right, well, if Isaiah's position changed then maybe some other things in the painting changed as well, you know, could give us some clues.”
What like a Da Vinci Code deal?” Sam asked
I don't...know, I'm still waiting for the movie on that one.”
“We gotta get back in and see that painting.” I said. “That’s good you get more time to crush on your girlfriend.” Dean said. “Dude, enough already. Ever since we got here you’ve been trying to get me out with Sarah. Just back off alright?” Sam said. “Well you like her and she likes you, you’re both consenting adults.” “Sam’s right Dean. What’s the point? We’re just gonna leave anyway.” I said. “What’s up with you, you were on my side about this yesterday.” “Yeah well things can change overnight.” “I don’t get it, why do you care about whether I hook up?” Sam asked. “Well maybe you wouldn’t be so cranky. Seriously Sam this isn’t about just hooking up ok. I…I think this Sarah girl could be good for you. And I don’t mean any disrespect but…I’m sure that this is about Jessica, right? Now I don’t know what it’s like to lose somebody like that…but…I would think that she’d want you to be happy, or have some fun…right?” “…Yeah I know she would. Your right…part of this is about Jessica…but not the main part.” “What’s it about?” [Me: I wouldn’t push it…] [Dean: I need to know.] Sam didn’t answer. “Yeah alright…well we still gotta see that painting which means you still gotta call Sarah so…” Dean said. Sam dialled the number and put his phone to his ear. “Sarah Hey it’s Sam…hey, hi…good, good yeah, umm what about you?” “Smooth” Dean whispered. “So Mel, Dean and I were thinking we’d like to come back in and look at the painting again, maybe we are interested in buying it…what? ...who’d you sell it to? …Sarah I need an address right now.” Sam got the address and we went to the house as fast as we could. When we got there Sarah was there too. “I wanna know what’s going on.” She said. “Sarah you’re in danger, go home.” Sam said. “No, Evelyn is a good friend, I wanna know what’s wrong.” We went to the door and unlocked it. When we went inside we found Evelyn sitting in her chair…but something wasn’t right. “Evelyn?” Sarah called out. Suddenly Evelyn’s head slumped over to show us that she was dead. Sarah screamed. We explained to her what’s going on. “I’m coming with you.” She said. “What, no.” Sam said. “Look, you guys are probably crazy, but if you're right about this, well, me and my dad sold that painting. We might have got those people killed. Look, I'm not saying I'm not scared, because I am scared as hell. But I'm not going to run and hide, either. So, we going or what?” she said and walked out. “Sam…marry that girl.” Dean said pointing to her. We went back to Evelyn’s house to look for differences in the picture. “Aren’t you guys worried it’ll attack…us?” she asked. “No, it seems to only attack at night so I think we’re safe.” I said reassuringly. “Hey, Sam check this out. Mausoleum in the background outside.” We decided that we’d best go and search for that mausoleum, to find out any more information. “Come on, we’ve been to loads of cemeteries already, maybe it’s not real.” She said. “There.” I said pointing to one that looked identical. We went inside and found four urns. “You notice anything strange here?” Dean asked.
Uh, where do I start?” Sarah said.
That's not what I mean. Look at the urns...”
Yeah they're only four.” Sam said.
Mom and the three kids... daddy dearest isn't here.”
“Wow, look at that doll.” Sarah said looking at the doll behind the glass. “Back then, when people died they’d be buried with an item of great value to them.” Sam said. We went to check the records. I went inside with Dean so that Sam and Sarah could talk. When we came back they were stuck in an awkward spot. “Interrupting anything?” I asked. “No, what you got?” Sam said. “Isaiah was buried separately and that means we have bones to burn.” Dean said. We went to the cemetery written in the records and dug up Isaiah’s body. We salted and burned the bones to dust. We went back to Evelyn’s house to burn the Painting. Sam and Sarah went inside first. “Hey, where’d the little girl go?” Sarah asked looking at the painting. The little girl and the Razor in the painting were both gone. Before they had time to get out the door swung shut. “Dean!” Sam called from the other side of the door. “Sam! What’s going on!?” I called out. “It’s the little girl, she’s the killer!” “What are we supposed to do, she was cremated!?” Dean yelled. “Wait, the doll at the cemetery.” Sarah started. “We don’t have time.” “No, back then they made the doll to look like the kid, they even used the person’s hair.” She said. “Dean! Go to the cemetery, you have to burn the doll!” Sam yelled. “Go, I’ll be ok here.” Dean said to me. “You’re actually letting me use the car?” I asked. “Hurry up, before I change my mind.” Dean said trying to find a way to open the door. He threw me the keys and I jumped in the car and drove as fast as I could. Sam was looking for salt but couldn’t find any in the house. “What kind of house doesn't have salt? Low sodium freaks!” “Why salt?” she asked.
“Protection. Same reason you throw it over your shoulder.”
I got to the cemetery and ran into the mausoleum. The doll was behind strong glass, I bashed it with the back of my gun and realised how stupid that was. I shot the glass and quickly grabbed the doll. I got my lighter and set it alight, hair first. Back at the estate house, they lock up the painting in a wooden box. “This is in the archives of the county records. The merchant’s adopted daughter, Milly. She was up for adoption ‘cause her real family was murdered in their beds.” Dean said. “She killed them?” Sarah asked. “Yeah, who’d suspect her, a sweet little girl? So then she kills Isaiah and his family, he takes the blame and his spirits been trying to warn people ever since.” “Where’s this one go?” one of the men with the painting asked. “Take it out back and burn it…I’m not joking. Thank you. So why’d the girl do it?” she asked. “Killing others, Killing herself, some people are just born tortured, so when they die their spirits are just as dark.” Sam said. “Maybe, I don’t really care, it’s over…we move on” I said. “I guess this means your leaving.” Sarah said to Sam and there was an awkward silence. “We’ll go wait in the car…Seeya Sarah.” Dean said and we walked back to the car. “I’m the one who burned the doll and destroyed the spirit but don’t thank me or anything.” I said. “Hey what’s going on?” Dean asked me. “What?” “You…you just seem different, you ok?” “Dean…I don’t wanna talk about what happened between us and honestly I don’t think our friendship’s gonna be the same again and I really wish it could but I don’t see it happening.” “Why? It wasn’t that-” “Dean, please.” We looked back to see Sam and Sarah kissing. “That’s my boy.” “Perv.” “Look Mel, we’re gonna have to talk about this.” “Later.” Sam came to the car and sat in front with Dean and I sat in the back. “We can stay a little longer.” Dean said. “No, let’s go.” Sam said smiling at Sarah, waving us goodbye. Supernatural – Dead Man’s Blood Sam, Dean and I were sitting in a diner. Sam was looking through papers and online for any leads. “I’ll be back in a minute.” I said after an uncomfortable silence. A few seconds passed. “I’ll be back too.” Dean said. He walked over to where I was and took me to talk in private. “I’m getting really sick of this.” I said. “Back at you. Why wont you talk to me?” he asked. “I don’t feel comfortable around you since that night. I’m sorry” I said. “I love being able to talk to you but how can I if every time I try you turn away like this?” “I think that was my plan. See the more I do that the less likely I am to have to go through this conversation.” “Well if you hate it so much why are you still with us, why don’t you just leave?” I paused thinking of an answer. “I’ll go if that’s what you want, that’s all you had to say.” “No, no, no I want you around but not if you hate being around.” “What are you trying to say?” “…I…god why is it so hard to talk to you?” “Because you’re a wuss.” I said grinning. “I guess…what I wanna say…you know how when we first met, we were trying to prove that we both wanted each other…I’ve proven you want me…and now…I guess I’m proving that I want you.” “Oh my god Dean, is this the relationship talk?” “I guess it is.” [Me: This is how the talk works for me…Be my boyfriend?] [Dean: Yeah, Be my Girlfriend?] [Me: Yeah…now was that so hard?] “I just don’t know if this’ll work.” I said. “I’ll make It work.” He said. We went back to the table and Dean put his arm around my shoulder. “What happened, you two seem to finally be comfortable around each other again.” Sam said. [Me: No one find’s out until I say so.] “We, uh, we just had a talk and made up.” Dean said smiling. “Daniel Elkins.” Sam said. “Daniel Elkins? I know that name.” Dean said and he grabbed out his Dad’s journal. On a page on the inside is Daniel Elkins, his address and his phone number. “He died Dean. We should check it out.” We went to Elkins’ Cabin. It was torn to pieces, there were papers everywhere. It would take weeks to sort through it all. “What the hell happened?” I said. We split up and searched the cabin. Dean found a notebook. It looked just like his dad’s. “Hey there’s some salt over here, right inside the door.” Sam called out. “Do you mean like ‘protection against demons’ salt or ‘oops, I spilled the popcorn’ salt?” Dean called back. “Definitely Protection stuff.” The further into the house we got, the bigger the signs of a struggle became. We all met up in one room. Sam noticed an empty gun case on the desk and looked closely at it. Dean found scratches on the floor. “There are scratches over here” he called out. “Does it mean anything?” I asked kneeling down with him. “I don’t think so.” “Wait.” I said grabbing a piece of paper and a pencil. I put the piece of paper over the scratches and scribbled over the paper. “Co-ordinates.” I said showing Sam the paper. “No…those are different, that’s more like a PO Box number.” He said. “It says where as well.” Dean said. “Let’s go.” Sam said. We went to the post office box and found the right number. Inside we found a letter. We went to the car and sat for a moment thinking. Sam and Dean in the front and me in the back. “J.W…you think, John Winchester?” Sam asked. “I don’t know…should we open it?” Dean said.
Suddenly Dean got startled by someone at the window of the car.
“Dad?” He said. John got in the back with me. “Uh, hi. I’m Melissa. I've heard a lot about you.” I said shaking his hand. “Nice to meet you.” He said. “Dad, what are you doing here? Are you alright?” Sam asked. “Yeah I’m ok, I read the news about Daniel. I got here as fast as I could. I saw you at his place.” “Why didn’t you come in dad?” “You know why. Because I had to make sure you weren’t followed. By anyone or anything. Nice job of covering your tracks by the way.” “We learned from the best.” Dean said. “Wait so you came all the way out here for this Elkins guy?” I asked. “Yeah. He was…he was a good man. He taught me a hell of a lot about hunting.” “Well you never mentioned him to us.” Sam said. “We had, uh…we had kind of a falling out. I hadn’t seen him in years. I should look at that.” He said and Dean gave him the letter. He opened it and read it aloud. “If your reading this I’m already dead…the son of a bitch had it the whole time.” “What is it?” I asked. “When you searched the place did you see a gun, an antique, a colt revolver?” “Uh, there was an old case but it was empty.” Dean said. “They have it.” “You know what ever killed Elkins?” Dean asked. “We gotta pick up the trail.” “Wait you want us to come with you?” Sam asked. “If Elkins was telling the truth we have to find this gun.” “Whoa, the gun, why?” I asked. “Because it’s important, that’s why.” “We don’t even know what these things are.” Sam said. “They’re what Daniel Elkins killed best…Vampires.” “Damn! That’s not gonna be easy.” I said. “Vampires? I thought there was no such thing.” Dean said. “You never even mention them, dad.” “I thought they were extinct. I thought Elkins, and others had wiped ‘em out…I was wrong.” “And Vampires are nasty. They decide after kidnapping you, whether to kill and eat you or to turn you.” I said. We went to the hotel and I slept with Dean (as usual) and Sam slept on his bed, while John stayed up listening to the Police Band. “Sam, Dean, Mel…Let’s go.” He said waking us up. “Oh dude, come on gimme five minutes.” I moaned. “Picked up a police call.” “What happened?” Dean asked sitting up. I groaned. “A couple called nine, one, one. Found a body in the street. Cops got there, everyone was missing, it’s the Vampires.” “How do you know?” Sam asked. “Just, follow me, ok?” “Vampires…gets funnier every time I hear it.” Dean said. We arrived at the scene (Following John in his car). John went to talk to the police while we waited at the car. “I don’t see why we couldn’t have gone over with him” Sam said. “Don’t tell me it’s already starting.” Dean said. “What?” I asked curiously. Dean turned to John as he walked back over. “What’ve we got?” “It’s them alright. I think they’re heading west. We’re gonna have to double back to get around that detour.” “How can you be so sure?” Sam asked. “Sam-” Dean was cut off. “I just wanna know we’re going in the right direction.” “I found this.” He handed the object to Dean. “It’s a Vampire Fang.” Dean said. “Not fangs Dean, teeth. The second set descends when they attack.” I corrected. “I like her.” “Thanks.” “Let’s get outta here we’re losing daylight. Dean, why don't you touch up your car, before you get rust. I wouldn't have given you the damn thing if I thought you were going to ruin it.” “Oh that’s it he’s going down.” I said. “Whoa, whoa, whoa calm down. Come on get in.” Dean said. While Sam drove Dean read out some vampire facts. “Vampires nest in groups of eight to ten. The smaller packs are sent out to hunt for food. Victims are taken back to the nest where they keep them alive, bleeding them for days or weeks. I wonder if that’s what happened to that nine, one, one couple.” “That’s probably what dad’s thinking. Of course it’d be nice if he just told us what he thinks.” Sam said. “So it is starting.” “What?” “Sam we’ve been looking for dad all year. Now we’re not with him for more than a couple of hours and there’s static already.” “No, look I’m happy he’s ok. Alright? I’m happy that we’re all working together…It’s just the way he treats us like we’re children. He barks orders at us Dean, he expects us to follow him without question. He keeps us on some sort of crap, need to know basis.” “He does this for a reason, our job. There’s no time to argue, there’s no margin for error alright? It’s just the way our old man runs things.” Dean said. “Yeah, well maybe it worked when we were kids but not anymore, alright? Not after everything you and I have been through Dean. I mean are you telling me you’re cool with just falling into line and letting him run the whole show?” Sam asked. “…If that’s what it takes.” “Sam with a family like yours family is the most important thing. This is the best way to handle it.” I said. Later in the car Dean gets a call from John and tells Sam to pull off at the next exit. “Why?” Sam asked. “Dad thinks we’ve got the Vampire’s trail.” “How?” “I don’t know, he didn’t say.” Sam revved the Impala and gained speed, driving in front of Johns car and screeching to a halt, making John have to do the same. Sam and John got out of their cars. Dean and I quickly followed. “Oh crap, Sam!” Dean yelled. “What the hell was that?” John asked. “We need to talk.” Sam said. “About what?” John asked again. “About everything. Where are we going dad? What’s the big deal about this gun?” “Sammy come on, we can Q and A after we kill all the Vampires.” Dean said. “Your brother’s right, we don’t have time for this.” “Last time we saw you, you said it was too dangerous to be together. Now out of the blue you need our help. Now obviously something big is going down and we wanna know what!” Sam yelled. “Get back in the car.” John said calmly. “No.” “I said get back in the damn car.” “Yeah, and I said no.” “Alright you’ve made your point tough guy, look we’re all tired, we’ll talk about this later. Sammy I mean it come on.” Dean said pulling Sam away. “This is why I left in the first place.” Sam muttered. “What’d you say?” John said. “You heard me.” “Yeah, you left. Your brother and I needed you, you walked away Sam You walked away!” “You’re the one who said don’t come back dad, you’re the one who closed the door, not me. You were just pissed off, you couldn’t control me anymore!” Sam screamed. “Stop! Sam I’d kill for the relationship you have with your dad, he cares about you but you wont see it! So stop it, that’s enough!” I yelled and separated them. John looked like he was ready to throw a punch. “That means you too.” Dean said. They both walked back to the cars. “Terrific.” Dean said sarcastically. Early the next morning we all sat atop a hill watching the barn the Vampires are using as their hideout. “So they’re really not afraid of the sun?” Dean asked. “Direct sunlight hurts like a nasty sunburn, the only way to kill ‘em is by beheading. Yeah they sleep during the day, that doesn’t mean they wont wake up.” John answered. “So walking in isn’t such a good idea.” I said. “Actually, that’s the plan.” We went to the car and grabbed some weaponry. “Hey dad I’ve got an extra Machete if you need one.” Dean said. “I think I’m ok thanks.” John said. “Whoa, nice, mind if I use the design?” I asked and made an exact replica appear. “How’d she do that?” John asked looking worried. “Oh uh, we have a little in common.” I said smiling innocently. “Dad, don’t worry, if she was gonna hurt us she would’ve by now.” Dean said reassuringly. “So…you guys really wanna know about this colt?” John asked reluctantly. “Hell yeah…sir.” I said. “It’s just a story, a legend really. I thought it was, I never really believed it until I read that letter. Back in 1836 when Haley’s comet was overhead, the same night those men died at the Alamo. They say Samuel Colt made a gun, a special gun. He made it for a hunter, a man like us, only on horseback. The story goes, he made thirteen bullets. This hunter, used the gun a half a dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him. Somehow Daniel got his hands on it. They say…they say this gun can kill anything.” “Kill anything, like supernatural anything?” Dean asked. “Like the demon.” Sam said. “Yeah, the demon. Ever since I picked up its trail, I’ve been looking for a way to destroy that thing. Find the gun…and we may have it.” We went into the bran through a window and found all the Vampires sleeping in hammocks. We carefully crept past them. Dean knocked one but was lucky, he didn’t wake. John went to look for the Colt, Dean found people in a cage and went to free them while Sam and I went to free the girl tied to a pole. “Hey, hey, Ssh we’re here to help you” I said. She let out a demonic scream that woke all the Vampires up. “Hey! Sam shut her up!” Dean yelled. John smashed a window with a bottle. “Boys run!” He yelled. I ran with them [Me: What about me.] [Dean: Boy’s run is quicker to say then Boys and Mel run.] We were chased by the Vampires. We finally got outside and ran up the hill to the car. We were waiting for a few seconds for John, getting more and more tense as the seconds passed. Finally he came up and we went to keep running. “They won’t follow, they’ll wait ‘till tonight. When a Vampire gets your sent…it’s for life.” “So what the hell do we do now?” Dean asked. “You gotta call the nearest funeral home, that’s what.” Dean looked confused. Sam, John and I wait for Dean back at the hotel. “When you and Dean were younger, I made you both a college fund…you see I never wanted this life for you. Sammy, when you said you wanted to go away to school…all I could think about, my only thought was…that you were gonna be alone. Sam, it just, it never accord to me, what you wanted. I just couldn’t accept the fact that you and me, we’re just different.” John said. “We’re not different…not anymore…with what happened to mum and Jess…no we probably have a lot more in common then just about anyone. Hey dad…what ever happened to that college fund?” “I spent it on ammo.” They laughed. “So…my boy finally found a girl?” John asked me. Sam looked confused, I didn’t know what to say and was shocked. “I, uh, we’re not…” I started. “Don’t worry sweetheart. I can tell, you and Dean are good for each other. I’m fine with it, don’t try to hide it.” I paused in thought and smiled. “I told him…not to tell a soul about us…just makes me seem heartless…but he makes me happy, he makes my heart skip a beat you know?” I said. “That’s all I wanted for my boy.” He smiled. Dean walked through the door. Silence filled the room. “Awkward.” He said. I walked over to him and kissed him on the cheek, putting my arm around him. “I thought you didn’t want people to know.” Dean said. “Well…your dad…he saw through it…not a lot I could do.” “Well…at least that means I can kiss you in public.” He said grinning. “Did you get it?” Sam said and we both turned around realising it wasn’t the right time. “Yep, Dead man’s blood.” He said grabbing a jar with blood inside out of a paper bag. “Ooh. Cool.” I said grabbing the jar. “So what does it do?” Dean asked.
“It’s like poison for Vampires.” I said smiling innocently.
“Well then we gotta set a trap.” Sam said. Later that night Dean sat on the bonnet of the Impala, in the middle of no where waiting. Kate (one of the Vampires.) finally arrived. “Car trouble? Let me give you a lift. Take you back to my place.” She said.
Ah, I'll pass. I usually draw the line at necrophilia.”
“Ooh!” She picked up Dean with one hand.
“I don't normally get this friendly until the second date...”
“You know, we could have some fun. I always like to make new friends.”
“Sorry, don't really stay with a chick that long, definitely not eternity.” John shot her with an arrow and we came out of the bushes.
“Please! You don’t honestly think this’ll have an effect.” “It should soon, that arrows tip was laced with Dead Man’s Blood.” John said smiling. She looked shocked at first and then fainted. “Ok guys, this is it. I’m going the rest alone.” John said. “Why?” I asked. “I can’t have you getting hurt.” “You can't treat us like this.” Sam said.
Like what?”
“Like children.”
“You are my children. I'm trying to keep you safe.”
“Dad, all due respect, but that's a bunch of crap.” Dean said.
“Excuse me?”
“You know we can help, why do you have to risk yourself when if we help, everything will be fine?” “You’re not coming and that’s an order” There was a long pause until finally Sam and Dean both said, “Yes, sir.”

To Be Continued... Some one said it was crap so I've pretty much given up on it for a little while to make way for a story I'm writing called Secrets.
