"If he is he kept it from Sam and Dean too. No faking those emotions. Plus they would have have the last number in the coordinates if he'd made it.
Not happy about being right Bobby didn't make it. I was sure he had seen something while rifling over Dick's desk that was important. I was possitive it was coordinates. I wonder if they are real.
Of course. Not everyone on Spn stays dead..."
Now that I was getting ready to go to bed a couple of things came to mind.

1. Did Sam and Dean salt and burn Bobby's remains? Sam had refused to S and B Deans.

2. Importance of question #1 is the reaper gave Bobby a choice. Go with him or become a spirit. Bobby never answered and his dieing doesn't mean he went with the reaper. The fact he was about to die was never a question. His mind was dieing. The question was where was he going to go. Or more importantly. To stay.

They could take this several different directions. We may "see" Bobby again. Just not in the way we're used too.

I'm so sad Bobby is gone (apparently, anyway), but I love the way they handled it, showing the guys going through the weeks just kind of numb and going through the motions. (But together at least!)

And IS Bobby gone??? That disappearing beer of Dean's was VERY suspicious. I watched the scene twice. He picks it up and it's full. He talks to Sam for a while. We never see him put it down or drink from it. He looks down and he's now holding an empty beer bottle. Hmmm...... but if Bobby IS a ghost, his spirit must be attached to SOMETHING the guys have. His journal maybe??

I was sorry to see the guys split up yet again, but it did kind of make sense under the circumstances and there was not bad feelings involved, so I guess it was okay. More Sam in mortal danger, so you know I was happy. (How sick is that?) I loved when he goaded the monster into feeding on him since the other guy was probably not going to survive another session. My hero!

The girl was so cool and so annoying at the same time.....totally a female mini-Dean...probably just like he was at her age. But either one of them should have been able to recognize the fact that she TOTALLY knew what her father did....I could tell the minute she opened the door. If anybody should have recognized that, it's Sam and Dean. I did think her suddenly wistful/hopeful look when Dean told her about Sam getting out for a while and going to college was wonderful acting for such a young actress....it was just a subtle change on her face. She was also smart enough to cut Sam loose first and give him the knife rather than going straight to her father who was too weak to help. Not bad.

Hey, did anybody catch Dean's mysteriously disappearing beer?! Don't know what that was...no condensed breath...no ghost, something new maybe? And Crissy did rock.
I miss Bobby already...Frank, Im not too sure about. The smile on Dean's face at the end...priceless.

I liked this ep very much, on reflection, even though I was very disappointed that Bobby wasn't brought back. I thought they handled Dean's and Sam's grief well, showing them just existing in the first few weeks after he died.
Frank will never be any sort of a replacement for Bobby - not that I think the writers are trying to do that - but I did feel empathy for him when he said about finding his wife and children dead, and I thought he did give Dean some good advice about taking his revenge on Dick, that he needed to rest and, above all, be professional and smile and just keep going - he looked like he got through to Dean. Maybe he'll carry on helping them against the Leviathans?
I thought it was heartbreaking when Dean was trying to smile at the end and really having trouble with it, but he kept on trying, even though he looked like he was about to cry...I'll have to watch this all again, very, very soon...
P.S. I thought the disappearing beer was down to Dean disconnecting from reality for a bit under the enormous grief he felt - sometimes when people are so sad and overwhelmed with emotion they do things they don't remember afterwards, and drinking the beer could be one of those moments - I don't think it was Bobby or any other spirit doing this, although I think (and hope) that Bobby will be back in some form or other, sometime...

Just read all of the posts here -- nice reflections, everyone! Yes, the grief was handled as well as they can in a one-hour show, without dragging it out but still showing that it took the boys a long time to even "get with it" enough to think about other things. Dean, of course, took it quite hard ... trying to focus on actions but completely in his head.

That's why, at first, I was thinking the same thing as what Sam said -- that Dean probably drank it without even knowing. HOWEVER! ... I read a tweet from Jim Michaels (one of the show producers), who often tweets fun trivia and spoilery comments during episodes. At that moment, he said "Who drank the beer? Hmm." That makes me think there is more to it. Bobby? Maybe. We'll see!

Medic04, you so right about the fact that we never did know (in the ep before hellatus) whether Bobby went with the reaper or not. We also don't know about the salting and burning. So it's all wide open for speculation right now. ;)

I want the Impala to come back! Hurry up and neutralize those leviathans, already, and bring back Dean's baby! :P

Wow, I haven’t posted on here for ages for some reason! (mostly because my new internet freezes up when I visit here or takes ages to load this site – any advice?) But anyway, I finally got on here~

Basically, this will probably sound weird and just desperate for any sign of Castiel, but you know Dean's disappearing beer? Well unless he drank it all himself (which he probably did anyway), then maybe, just MAYBE it was a sign of Castiel? :D Maybe by some miracle he invisibly appeared and had it because he was thirsty and recovering then went way again and... Yeah ok probably not... I’m just annoyed that Bobby AND Castiel aren’t in this series much! Poor Bobby :(

Anyway, I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.... I’ll try to start posting on here again more~ (if anyone even remembers me)

I was quite sad & disappointed that it seems Bobby is truly dead. I thought he would be because of how they portrayed his brain & memories dying off & disappearing in "Death's Door". How could you come back from that? I agree with some other posts that, of course, you never REALLY know if they will bring someone back on Supernatural or not. But it seems that this might be it for Bobby and even I am surprised at just how upset I am by this. I thought it was a bit strange that we didn't actually SEE the end of Bobby (his grave, burning his body, etc.). So for the first part of the episode last night I kept hoping he was in a coma. It about broke my heart when Sam told the young hunter that Bobby had "passed away".

By the way, GREAT that the young, extremely capable hunter was a GIRL!!!! I know we had Jo; but everyone treated her like she was a little sister and just "playing" at being a hunter (at least in the beginning)...but here was a totally capable 14 year old who didn't panic and saved Dean's ass as well as working WITH them in a very smart way. I see why Dean would want to save her from "the life", but hell, they should have HIRED her and kept her with them! I agree with the earlier post that her wistful look when she heard about Sam having gone to college said it all though. Part of her wanted to go in a different direction and she didn't know it was possible. Dean understood that and so that's the way in which he pushed her. And good acting for a young actress there (agree with the earlier post on THAT too!).

Dean's disappearing beer; I thought that was more a comment on Dean's continued drinking problem. But interesting to hear from others here that it might be more than that. They also showed the flask of liquor early on; I took that to mean that Dean's drinking is still a problem and the fact that he drank a beer...

...without even realizing it showed just how bad it's gotten. I HOPE it's more than that though! :) And it's true we don't know if Bobby chose to move on or not.

Dean's conversation with Frank was good. At least now Dean thinks more of him than just thinking he's a complete nut (after hearing some of his history; he knows where he is coming from). But it's true that Frank is no Bobby.

I thought Sam could have been written better in this one. I guess he deals with grief by just "acting sad", but he was played so FLAT here by Jared. I guess maybe it was meant to portray shock? But I wanted a little more emotion out of him.

Jensen, on the other hand, did what I thought Dean ought to have done! That last scene was perfect and gut-wrenching. Dean trying to do what Frank told him (smile, keep going, be professional) when it was just about to kill him.

Dean really has no one but Sam now. I have to admit that sometimes I wish it had ended at season 5 because at least he had Cas and Bobby (but no Sam which also would have killed him).

I'll re-watch last night's episode, but I was really saddened by it overall. If they don't start introducing some new, more permanent characters (like Frank; those that appear in more than one episode) I am fearful for the future of the show. They're taking it down to just Sam & Dean. I hope I'm wrong about that (and the good part is, I'm usually wrong when trying to guess what they will do!).

And if next week is a time-travel episode, how are they going to get back in time with no Cas?

Does anyone think we'll ever see Bobby again?

Krissy.Kicked.Ass The actress was awesome! She was a half pint Dean. Actually a bit better. She had him speechless at times. He's not used to dealing with someone that can match wits' with him. Especially when they come packaged as a 14 year old girl.
I think the disappearing beer was meant for us to think of Deans obvious drinking problem. Thing is, Dean didn't have enough time during that short conversation with Sam to drink it. And if he had been drinking it Sam would have seen him. It could be Cas, Bobby or Ellen. I'm leaning toward Ellen. She did get him a message that if he didn't stop drinking so much she'd come back and kick his ass. It could also be Bobby trying to open Dean's eyes to the fact he is drinking to much.
When Sam started taunting the Velata so she wouldn't kill the other hunter Sam made me nervous. He looked like he did when Lucifer was riding him. Then he morphed into Robo-Sam.
Dean trying to put on a smile at the end was heartbreaking. It seems he learned a lot from Frank and Krissy.
As far as next weeks episode. It could be another angel helping them to get back in time. Or a cursed object. You just never know.

Did anyone else think Sam was telling the truth about killing the other Velatas, and was using a bit of Soulless! memory to freak them out?
Also, the mystery beer is *very* suggestive, I don't see what else it could be other than a message from Bobby. Also props to Jensen, his acting in the last scene was just sublime. It was the most touching moment of the ep, for me.

I noticed that too. It could be Bobby, but then i got thinking what if it was somone we haven't seen inna while. Maybe Castiel??? I mean seriously! All they found was his trenchcoat in that one episode... So who knows maybe it was him stealing the beer lol. He is a fast sneaky angel when he wants to be :)

Agreed, agreed, agreed...I'm never afraid to criticize where I think it's warranted, but I have to say here that Jensen is an amazing actor who has not gotten the recognition he deserves from the wider entertainment world. I've always felt that the subtle touches he adds to Dean are amazing and never cease to impress me. Not to take anything at all away from Jared (I wouldn't want anyone else to play Sam; Jared IS Sam)...Jensen is just a natural.

Someone mentioned what Bobby could be holding onto that would keep him here. I think his bond with Sam and Dean would be enough. If you need a physical object it could be Dean's amulet. There's no way Sam would have left it in the garbage can.

Medic, interesting idea about an object ... that would be cool if the writers brought back something like the amulet!

I so agree that Jensen is an excellent actor. The only thing he can't pull off: looking bad, lol! I thought it was hilarious when Frank said, "You look horrific." Then the camera turns to Dean and .,.. he looks as awesome and sexy as ever. You'd think they could make-up some dark circles under his eyes or have him grow a five o'clock shadow at least, ha ha! He sure did not look anything near horrific! ;D

I don't think Sam had ever really hunted them before, because he did not know they hunted in pairs. He was just working of the intel in John's journal. Otherwise, they may not have taken him down so easily. I actually LOVED the fact that he willingly distracted the monster and got her to drink from him rather than the other guy....totally heroic and selfless thing to do. I thought it was a great moment.

As for Dean and the disappearing beer....if you rewatch the scene, I don't think the camera ever leaves Dean after he picks it up, and we never see him drink at all. Plus, if you listen carefully, RIGHT before he looks back down at it empty in his hands, there is a faint "whooshing" sound. I didn't notice it at first until someone pointed it out, but it's definitely there. I think it's Bobby.

As sad as I am to see him go, I do know that one of the goals for this season was to get back to the roots of the show where it was just Sam and Dean relying on each other -- no bailouts by Cas or quick answers from Bobby. And as much as I miss those two characters and wouldn't mind seeing them visit from time to time, I am sort of looking forward to the "you and me against the world" dynamic between the guys.

I know he looked better in that shot than in the last 3 seasons. He looked horrific after his 36 hour nap. THEN he had dark circles under his eyes and they were bloodshot. I wonder if makeup got their orders backwards :D

Thanks, janicec678, I thought I was losing my mind hearing that whooshing sound. I didn't just hear it. It was more like I "felt" it. You know who else would do something like that. Someone that likes to play tricks. You know how everyone's wondering how Sam and Dean are going to get back to the 1940's...We may have our answer ;^) My fingers are crossed X Do you find this valuable?
