I literally do not remember what this one is about by the title.

        Guess I’ll find out soon!

HAHAHA – JBB! Too funny. ZOMBIE GIRLFRIEND, that’s what it’s about….well on the surface.

What I enjoyed about this episode the most was that Sam and Dean really have to figure the whole case out from scratch. There isn’t much help from John’s journal. They stumble around from theory to theory from ghost to angry spirit to finally zombie. I also appreciate that the zombie lore here is derived from GREEK origins – not Caribbean Hoodoo or similar often used concepts!

To me the most important elements of this episode are the brother moments. First the fight Sam and Dean have, or better, the way Sam confronts Dean and doesn’t let him wiggle out of it with lame excuses. Dean IS scary – still not dealing with John’s death, avoiding all talk about it, driven and harsh on the case, jumping to conclusions quickly when they JUST had a case showing that wasn’t such good idea. Then Dean’s breakdown about the guilt he feels and how Sam can’t help.
These scenes between them fighting on the street and then Dean’s apology and later confession are beautifully raw and full of real palpable emotion.
Their chemistry so early in the run of the show is already magical to watch!

Couple of funny things about the episode:
It took me a couple of times watching this episode, but when you listen closely you hear that Sam is watching the “Skin Channel” in the hotel room and that “Casa Erotica” is next! HAHAHA. I think that is the first time we hear about that particular “educational program”! And also, Sam shouldn’t be so harsh on Dean’s habits then, I guess!

I remember that a bts feature revealed that Jared split his pants filming the graveyard chase scene in the end and I believe is also broke his arm in the same sequence.

Yeah; this one was kinda “meh” for me and it started the whole, or perpetuated the whole, “Let’s have the case of the week parallel something in Sam and Dean’s lives.” So someone reanimated their girlfriend, and it’s all a metaphor for Dean thinking he should have stayed dead when he was sure John brought him back. He cries at the end, admitting this to Sam. Poor Sam; wanting Dean to talk then not really knowing how to help when he finally does.

The dead girlfriend was very horror-movie-creepy. Very dramatic to have to stake her back in the coffin! Liked their ruse (letting her overhear their plan to lure her out). I also liked the misdirect with the father. Dean so angry and Sam trying to make him back off as Sam was clear-headed enough to see that the father wasn’t acting like the guilty party…Dean was just mad about it all thanks to his own guilt over his own life being saved.

The arguments WERE really raw and good.

I loved Dean catching Sam watching porn (or about to). Dean’s always made out to be the player in these early episodes, but I love that this DOES humanize Sam…he IS a guy with needs even if he doesn’t womanize like Dean. Could probably write a dissertation on Sam watching porn instead of trying to pick up women…that would be interesting.

Jared did have a broken arm in the next episodes. I didn’t know he did it on this one!

You really have to pay attention to catch that little nugget, though, so it doesn’t make a open point for Sam’s “humanization” but I love your point about it.

And I’d read that dissertation in a heart beat. HAHA

This is one of those episodes when I didn’t find the case or guest actors interesting AT ALL, but the story that evolved between the brothers is what made the episode valuable to me.

I’ve often wondered what was on that chain Dean was wearing around his neck when they were at the graveyard. We never saw Dean wear it in any other episode before or since. Some fans have theorized that it’s John’s dog tags, but Dean was still wearing the chain after Sam buried the dog tags. Theories?

I was annoyed that Sam accused Dean of “inventing” a case when there was obviously something weird at the dead girl’s grave. If anything, Sam’s guilt about John’s death clouded his own judgement and caused him to overlook a case that he should’ve recognized. Sigh…

It’s a pretty cool aspect of the lore that zombies cause plants around them to die. I don’t think we saw that in “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”. It’s a shame – that would’ve been a fun clue. Those zombies also died from head shots. Maybe it depends on how the zombie is raised? Or maybe it’s another continuity error.

One of my all-time favorite shots of Jensen is in this episode. After the brothers leave the professor’s house the second time, and Sam is confronting Dean about his behavior, Dean turns to talk to Sam and WOW! That shot of Jensen when he’s looking at Sam is just breathtaking! Gotta love those Kim Manners close ups 😊

Speaking of favorite shots, I LOVE that camera shot when Dean pulls off to the side of the road to talk to Sam about his guilt over John’s death. It is SO well done! That whole scene is fabulous. Jensen is perfection, as always, and the lighting and camera work are exceptional.
