JODY MILLS RETURNS — Jody Mills reluctantly attends a mandatory sheriff’s retreat and is partnered with an overeager sheriff named Donna who wants to bond. Just as Jody thinks things can’t get any worse, a body with just strings of meat and skin hanging off the bones is discovered. While the local sheriffs blame an animal attack, Jody knows better and calls Dean and Sam...

Dean - "This badge means something."
    Sam - "I made it at Kinko's."
Dean - "Yes, you did. Be proud of that."
  • Donna - "So, fresh corpse, jerk ex-husband, out-of-control teen. Want to get blingo'ed on my mini-bar and watch pay-per-view?"

  • Is Dean still in denial over the Mark and is it in control of him now?
  • Can The Boys ever find a way to remove the Mark safely? Can the missing Cain help?
  • Has Jody found someone she can Hunt with - even a friend - to ease the burden of her losses when Dean and Sam aren't around?
  • What is Crowley up to?
  • Where is Rowena and what is she planning? Do her schemes involve Crowley or his son?
  • What is Hannah doing now? Is she looking for Cas' grace?

  • Some vampires eat human flesh and are OK with going out and hunting in daylight!
  • Dean doesn't appear to be telling the whole truth about the Mark of Cain as he gripped his arm after telling Sam he felt OK.
  • Sam seemed surprised when Dean said that the Mark has been "pushing" him since he was cured.
  • Jody is still struggling to deal with losing her son and husband.
  • Donna refers to Alex as her "kid" and has developed very maternal feelings about her.
  • Sam never told Jody that he found Dean.
  • Apparently, the "puppy dog" look works in reverse! We saw Dean successfully use "the look" on Sam for a change.

  • Hibbing Minnesota is approximately 400 miles from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The drive would take about 7 hours.
  • Sheriff Donna grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, which is about 3 hours away by car (approx 200 miles) from Hibbing.
  • Hibbing, Minnesota was also the location where "The Benders" (season 1) took place.
  • Although Phil Sgriccia has been directing episodes of Supernatural since season 1, this is the first episode he helped write. He wrote this episode with Jenny Klein. Jenny Klein joined the writing staff in season 5 and departed after season 11.
  • Jody and Donna were in the main convention area right before they went up to search Sheriff Cuse's room. Unless Jody had her machete on her already (which would have been unusual, since she didn't know they were dealing with vampires) how did she suddenly have her machete when Sam and Dean walked into the room? Unless a scene was cut out, she didn't have time to go to her car (or room) to get it.
  • Cripple Creek Road in Hibbing, Minnesota appears to be fictional.
  • Aren Buchholz, who played Deputy Graham, previously played a teenager pretending to be a vampire in season 6 "Live Free or Twihard".

  • "Hibbing 911" is a pun on the title of a comedy show called "Reno 911" (ran from 2003 - 2009) that spoofs police officers.
  • Dean: "Yeah, I love the smell of parchment in the morning." - This refers to the line from "Apocalypse Now" (1979) spoken by Kilgore: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning...Smelled like... victory."
  • Howie: "Just watch your Top Model". - This refers to"America's Next Top Model" which is a show on the CW that's hosted by former supermodel Tyra Banks.
  • Dean and Sam use FBI aliases "Agents Frehley and Criss". This refers to Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, members of the rock band, Kiss. Dean and Sam used these same aliases in "The Purge" season 9 -- the episode when the Winchesters first meet Sheriff Donna Hanscom.
  • The Winchesters made their FBI badges at Kinko's. Kinko's was a national photocopy/print store chain that was eventually taken over by Federal Express.
  • According to the Urban Dictionary, "peach pit" can refer to part of a woman's genitalia.
  • When Jody and Donna are at the expo, they mention a gun called a "Sigma". The Sigma Series is a line of handguns made by Smith and Wesson.
  • Jody mentions to Dean that rumors say he "went off the res" a few months ago. This is an abbreviated version of "went off the reservation", referring to someone who has rebelled against the accepted behavior of his/her group. The term has negative connotations, however, because it may have originated as a reference to the forced relocation of Native Americans onto reservations.
  • Dean: "OK, Mufasa, enough with the 'Circle of Life' crap." - This refers to the 1994 Disney animated film, "The Lion King", which chronicles the adventures of Simba, who leaves his pride of lions when he believes that he is responsible for his father, Mufasa's death. His father had spoken to him of taking his place in the "Circle of Life".
  • "Using every part of the buffalo" refers to the wasteful practice of many early-American fur traders who killed buffalo only to harvest and sell their hides, often leaving the rest of the body to rot. Native Americans, in contrast, relied on buffalo for meat, hides, and other uses, so they were known for using all of the animal after it was killed. Today, the term generally refers to not being wasteful with resources.
  • "Burning Man" is an annual gathering that takes place in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The original "Woodstock" was a large, open air music festival that took place near Woodstock, New York in 1969.
  • Charles Manson was a 1960s era cult leader who led his followers to commit several murders. He is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
  • Wavy Gravy is an American peace activist and entertainer who was very popular with followers of the hippie culture.

  • "All I Know" by Jim Wolfe (plays when Jody and Donna are questioning Sheriff Cuse)
