TEASER:
At the camp in the alternate universe (AU), everyone is stunned to see Sam, and even more stunned to see Lucifer. Lucifer sarcastically tries to convince the group that they should be grateful because he resurrected Sam. He also reminds them that with Gabriel not at full strength, they need him to help fight Michael, whether they like it or not.

Lucifer introduces himself to Jack, against the strenuous objections of Dean and Castiel. Lucifer insists that he is the only one who truly understands Jack and his powers, but an argument ensues. Dean tells Gabriel to use his archangel blade to kill Lucifer, but Gabriel and Lucifer both know Gabriel isn’t strong enough. Jack is distressed by the arguing and teleports away, leaving the rest of the group in an angry standoff.

EPISODE:
Dean accuses Lucifer of frightening Jack, which is normally what makes him teleport himself away. To help defuse the situation, Gabriel offers to go look for Jack. Once Gabriel is gone, Lucifer tries again to convince the rest of the group (Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Mary) that he’s a walking weapon against Michael and they need him. He says he wants to join their team.

Castiel presents a set of Enochian-warded handcuffs, asserting that Lucifer is not at full power, so the handcuffs should hold him. Lucifer allows himself to be handcuffed. Once Lucifer is restrained, Sam asks him about the rift. Lucifer tells the group that the rift is still open, and he left Rowena enough grace to keep it open for approximately 31 hours, so they have that much time to accomplish their mission.

Moments later, Dean and Sam are talking alone for the first time since Sam’s resurrection. Sam apologizes for bringing Lucifer to the camp, but Dean says that as long as Sam is alright, he has nothing to apologize for. The two embrace, as Dean confesses that he thought he’d lost Sam for good. After the reunion hug, Sam tells Dean that he will handle Lucifer.

Somewhere near the camp, Jack is alone. He remembers the video recording Kelly (his mother) left for him, in which she tells him that it’s only normal for him to want to know who his father is and perhaps go look for him. Kelly also reminds Jack that he shouldn’t let anyone tell him who he should be, and that he should decide who he wants to be. Jack also has flashbacks to the people he hurt, conversations with Sam, and the recent explosion at Michael’s headquarters that killed several people and almost killed Mary. Jack seems distraught and sinks to the ground in despair.

Elsewhere in the camp, Mary talks to Dean and Sam. The Boys remind Mary that they don’t have much time to get back through the rift, so they should find Jack and get moving. But Mary tells them that she can’t leave. Despite everything Dean and Sam went through to find her and try to bring her back, she feels an obligation to the people in the AU and wants to stay and help them fight.

Dean and Sam are surprised at Mary’s admission, and Sam suggests that if Mary can’t come with them, then they should try to get the camp survivors to come through the rift with them. Once everyone is in a safe place, they can come up with a strategy to defeat Michael. Then they can come back and save their world. Mary smiles and considers the plan.

As Mary and the Boys are talking, Castiel and Lucifer are in another part of the camp, sniping at each other when Jack returns. Over Castiel’s objections, Jack decides that he want to talk to his father and hear what Lucifer has to say. Lucifer is smug over his small victory, but Jack’s first question “Why does everyone hate you?” catches him off guard. Lucifer tries to explain his position the way he always has, asserting that he is misunderstood and that he’s been a scapegoat for all the world’s evils. Lucifer tells Jack that humans are weak and easily led, and when they fail, they blame the devil instead of blaming themselves.

Castiel tries to tell Jack that Lucifer is slanting the truth, but Jack continues listening to his father. Lucifer goes on to tell Jack about how god betrayed him and locked him in a cage because he told the truth. As Castiel stalks off in disgust, Lucifer seems to be convincing Jack that he deserves a chance to change his ways and win Jack over. Once alone, Lucifer starts telling Jack about how powerful he is, and how he is part of a powerful family that includes god himself.

While Mary and the Winchesters are talking, Castiel returns and tells them that Jack is back and taking to Lucifer. Enraged, the group descends on Lucifer and Jack and tries to get Lucifer away from his son. Dean warns Jack to not listen to Lucifer, but Jack insists that he wants to know more about his family. The Winchesters and Castiel try to tell Jack that THEY are his family, and Lucifer is dangerous, but they can’t convince him.

Sometime later, the entire group of rebels is making their way to Bobby’s basecamp. During this long walk, several private conversations take place:

  • Mary urges Dean to take it easy on Jack, because he’s lost people and has been been trying very hard to prove himself. Mary also says that, like it or not, Lucifer is Jack’s father, so there’s no way to keep them apart if they want a relationship with each other. Dean expresses concern that Jack will go dark-side, but Mary believes Jack will make the right choices.

  • Jack tells Sam that he and Lucifer think they can kill Michael. But Sam tells Jack that their plan is different.

As the group is walking, we learn that Gabriel was sent ahead of them to scout the route. Suddenly, we see Gabriel running desperately through the woods to rejoin the group, with several angels chasing him. When Gabriel and his pursuers arrive, Mary, the Winchesters, and several others draw guns and prepare to fight.

But before anything can happen, Lucifer snaps his fingers and kills the angels. The group looks on in disbelief as he disintegrates the Enochian-warded handcuffs, telling them that he knew the cuffs wouldn’t hold him, but he let them think it would work. Lucifer also expects gratitude for killing the angels.

Eventually, the group arrives at Bobby’s basecamp. When the Winchesters ask about Charlie and Mr. Ketch, Bobby tells them that Charlie and Ketch went to look into an angel kill squad that was preparing to execute some resistance fighters. Sam tells Bobby that they’ll need to leave soon, and Bobby admits that he’s heard about their plan. He doesn’t think it will work, but tells the Boys to present the plan to the whole group and let the group vote on whether to go or not.

Elsewhere at Bobby’s camp, Lucifer continues talking to Jack. They meet up with Gabriel, who berates Lucifer. Lucifer tries to gloss over the bad blood between himself and Gabriel, and the difficulties between Lucifer and god. In front of Jack, Gabriel accuses Lucifer of lying and misrepresenting himself as the victim. Gabriel walks away in disgust.

KETCH AND CHARLIE:

Elsewhere in the AU, Charlie and Ketch catch up with the angels, who seem to be transporting a prisoner. When they stop the angels at gunpoint and remove the prisoner’s hood, they discover that they have been tricked. The prisoner is also an angel, who catches Charlie off guard and ends up with his angel blade at her throat. Realizing that the angel will kill Charlie, Ketch drops his weapon and he and Charlie are taken prisoner.

The angels take Charlie and Ketch to one of their bases, where the two are tortured. Neither of them will reveal information about the rebels or their plans, so the torture gets worse.

Time passes, night falls, and the angels realize they aren’t getting anywhere. We learn that they have sent for a “specialist”. Within minutes, a truck pulls up, and Castiel (an alternate-universe, Nazi version of Castiel) enters the room.

AT BOBBY'S CAMP:
Back at Bobby's camp, night has fallen. Dean, Sam and Mary talk to the assembled rebels, trying to convince them to go along with their plan. They tell the group that on the other side, they have access to a large collection of lore that will probably help them figure a way to defeat Michael. When the meeting ends, it’s not clear which way the group will vote.

As the group is talking, two rebels rush in and talk to Bobby. Soon after, we learn that Charlie and Ketch have been taken prisoner. Moments later, we see Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Bobby questioning the rebel soldier who betrayed Charlie and Ketch. The man insists that he didn’t do anything, but the others don’t believe him.
At Dean’s order, Castiel places his hands on the man’s head and the prisoner screams. Apparently, this angel torture technique strips information from the prisoner’s mind, but repeated attempts cause enough brain damage that the person's mind no longer exists.

Elsewhere in the camp, Gabriel and Lucifer are talking. Their orders were to remain in place at the camp's perimeter in case the angels attack. Gabriel tells Lucifer that Jack is nothing like him. Lucifer tells Gabriel that he’s changed, but Gabriel doesn’t believe him. Gabriel confronts Lucifer, telling him that he lives to be worshiped and feared, and he’s incapable of loving Jack or anyone else. Gabriel also challenges Lucifer’s version of the truth regarding his fall from grace. He accuses Lucifer of corrupting humanity for selfish reasons, and says that locking Lucifer away was the only choice god had. Gabriel thinks Lucifer is too evil to ever change.

KETCH AND CHARLIE:
At the angels’ base, AU-Castiel begins torturing Charlie, using the same technique the real-world Castiel used on the human prisoner at Bobby’s camp. As Charlie screams in pain, the lights flicker out. In a fight scene, Dean, Sam, Mary, Jack, and Castiel burst in to save Charlie and Ketch. In the melee, the angels are killed, and real-world-Castiel kills AU-Castiel.

ROWENA:
Back at the bunker, Rowena is studying her magic books for a way to keep the rift open. The rift fluctuates, threatening to close, so she continues her efforts.

AT BOBBY'S CAMP:
With Charlie and Ketch safely back at camp, Bobby tells Dean and Sam that everyone has voted in favor of their plan, so the entire group will be joining them when they go back through the rift.

Apocalypse Now recap - Supernatural Fan Wiki
As the news sinks in, Dean, Cas and Sam discuss how they’re going to get such a large group of people to the rift and safely through it. As they’re talking, Dean notices a derelict school bus and asks Bobby about it.

The next scene is the next morning. Dean has been working on the school bus and has managed to get it running. At first, Jack refuses to join the group, insisting that he must stay and kill Michael. But Lucifer is able to convince him to come with the group and go along with the plan.

With Lucifer driving (so the rest of the group can keep an eye on him) everyone loads onto the bus (with Dean, Sam, Jack and Gabriel in a lead jeep) and they head back toward the rift.

When they arrive, the rift appears to be weakening and closing.

ROWENA:
Back at the bunker, Rowena is exhausted. She has been up for days making sure the rift stays open. She sees that it is closing, and recites an incantation to keep it open.

Apocalypse Now recap - Supernatural Fan Wiki

In the AU, Dean and Sam see the rift surge back to life, and they start rushing people through. Ketch is the first one through, followed by Jack, Mary, Bobby, Charlie, and Castiel. Afterward, the rebels start coming through. Rowena redoubles her efforts to keep the rift open.

Lucifer tries to cross over, to be with Jack. But Sam stops him, ordering him and Gabriel to stay until the end, in case Michael and his angels show up. Reluctantly, Lucifer temporarily stays behind.

Before Dean and Sam can pass through the rift, Michael and his angels show up. Gabriel orders Dean and Sam to go through the rift, saying he will buy them some time. Sam tries to convince Gabriel to come with them, but Gabriel says that all he’s done in his life is to run, and he isn’t going to run this time. He again orders the Winchesters to leave. As Dean and Sam watch in horror, Lucifer and Gabriel fight Michael, and Gabriel gets killed.

An injured Lucifer tries to limp through the rift, but Sam stops him. When Lucifer seems shocked, Sam asks him “How did you think this was gonna end?”. Then, Sam shoves Lucifer to the ground and crosses through the rift. Before Michael and Lucifer can follow, the rift closes.

EPILOGUE:

Back at the bunker, the group celebrates over beers, and remembers those who fell during the battle. Jack sits alone, lost in his own thoughts, while Bobby and the rest of the group toast the Winchesters for helping them achieve their victory.

Back in the AU, Gabriel’s body lies on the ground, and we see the silhouette of his angel wings. Nearby, Lucifer tries to convince Michael that he can work the spell to open the rift. Lucifer says that if they work together, he’ll get his son back, and Michael can have the other world. They agree to work together.
