. GABRIEL'S BIO |
Gabriel, also referred to as The Trickster or Loki, is an archangel portrayed by Richard Speight, Jr. Having
grown tired of watching his brothers fight each other in Heaven, he fled to Earth thousands of years prior to the series, assuming the role of a Pagan trickster.
In his season 2 debut "Tall Tales," several violent urban legends to come to life on a college campus and
punish those residing there. Sam and Dean Winchester investigate and eventually figure out the perpetrator. Gabriel, known only then as the Trickster, is waiting for them and offers a peaceful resolution so long as they let him leave to terrorize another town. The Winchesters refuse and attack him with the help of fellow hunter Bobby Singer, and the Trickster fakes his own death.
In the season 3 episode "Mystery Spot," Sam is trapped in an endless time loop in which Dean continually
dies in strange ways. After a countless number repeated days, Sam comes to realize that a trickster must be at work, and manages to locate the culprit. He threatens his tormentor with a blood covered stake, causing the Trickster to reveal himself and agree to break the loop. Before Sam can kill him anyway, the Trickster sends him and Dean to the next day. Dean once again dies however, and the time loop no longer exists to revive him. Over the next several months, Sam learns to live without Dean, and becomes a colder and more calculated person as he attempts to track down the Trickster. Eventually, the Trickster once again reveals himself to Sam, and attempts to teach Sam a lesson: the two brothers continually sacrificing themselves for one another would bring no good, and when people die, they just have to learn to accept it and live with it. Nonetheless, Sam pleads with him to turn back time so he can save Dean. The Trickster agrees, stating that the whole situation had become boring months ago for him anyway.
In the season 5 episode "Changing Channels", Dean and Sam become trapped in a TV world, where they are a
part of variations of real TV shows. Eventually, Dean, with help of Castiel, realizes the Trickster is in fact a much more powerful creature than they thought, and they trap him in a burning circle of holy oil. The Trickster admits that he is the archangel named Gabriel. He applauds Sam and Dean, and tells them the reason he trapped them is because he wanted both of them to say yes to becoming Lucifer and Michael's respective vessels so the Apocalypse can finally end, as he can't handle seeing the fighting between his brothers anymore. Gabriel tells them they were always meant to fight each other because the lives of the brothers mirrors the lives of Michael and Lucifer. Dean and Sam still refuse, but before they leave, Dean frees Gabriel from his trap and accuses him of giving up because he's simply too afraid to stand up to his own family. Gabriel is left to ponder Dean's words.
Gabriel returns in the season 5 episode "Hammer of the Gods", attending the summit of pagan gods under his
Loki persona. He intends to rescue the brothers, as their plan to lure Lucifer into the trap laid by the gods would easily fail, and Lucifer would slaughter them all. The brothers blackmail him with his angelic identity, and he is forced to comply; the rescue attempt results in their capture once again. Kali, an old flame of Gabriel's, reveals she, along with the other gods, knew of his identity for a while. Kali takes his sword and stabs him with it, supposedly killing him, but Gabriel appears to Dean and reveals the sword was a fake and suggests Dean should seduce Kali so they can escape. Mercury betrays the other gods and summons Lucifer, who kills all of the gods save for Kali. Gabriel is then forced to step in, allowing Kali and the brothers to leave. Gabriel finally confronts Lucifer about loyalties and their past, but ultimately fails and is killed by his own sword. He later reveals, through a modified porn movie, that Lucifer can be recaptured in his previous prison using the rings of the Four Horsemen.

Thread started: Apr 7 2012, 2:43 PM EDT Watch So there is a petition Rob (Chuck) started, to get the Trickster/Gabriel back on the show. They need 50,000 signatures and (last I checked) they have a little over 6,000 so far. (If anyone wants to sign, let me know, I will post the link.) Anyway, to get more attention for the petition, and hopefully more signatures, I wanted to make a video for the Trickster and post it on Youtube. I've got an idea started for the video, but I can't think of a good song that would fit him. Any suggestions? |
