TEASER:

At the Men of Letters' bunker, Sam is using newspaper clippings and other visual aids to help the new arrivals from the alternate universe (AU) catch up on current events. The group is surprised to learn that the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series, a reality-television show personality was somehow elected president, and the polar caps are melting, but the session seems to have accomplished its purpose. As Sam is talking, he gets a phone call from Dean.

The camera cuts to a new scene. Dean, Castiel, Sam and Jack are outside a shack on a dock by a river. Apparently, there are werewolves inside the structure. The team of hunters briefly discusses their attack strategy before successfully entering the structure and working as a team to kill the monsters.

Meanwhile, back at the bunker, Bobby and Mary are walking in the woods near the bunker and talking.

Bobby admits that he’d rather remain in this world than return to the AU, and he looks affectionately at Mary, wordlessly suggesting that she might be the reason he wants to stay. As they’re walking, they come across a blood trail that leads them to a dead body. It’s Maggie from their group.

EPISODE:

Later, Dean and Sam have arrived back at the bunker and are walking along a corridor talking. They don’t yet know about Maggie. As they’re talking, Dean reminds Sam that they once discussed what they would do if they could eliminate all the monsters and rid the world of evil. They agree that they would retire from hunting, because they’ve both earned it.The brothers separate and Dean prepares to enter his room, but he hears unusual sounds coming from Jack’s room, which is nearby. Dean bursts into the room and finds Jack asleep and having a nightmare. Jack is startled when Dean wakes him up, but they talk briefly. Jack admits that his nightmare was about the people he couldn’t save, and Dean confesses that he has nightmares about that, too.

Jack feels guilty because he wasn’t strong enough to save the people who died in the AU. Dean tries to comfort Jack by saying that he knows some terrible things happened to him in the AU, and that Jack should know he’s strong because he was able to survive those events. But Dean also reminds Jack that no matter how strong someone is, he/she will make mistakes. He also tells Jack that even if you make mistakes, you can still try every day to get better and that regardless of what comes at them next, they will deal with it together because Jack is part of their family. As Dean and Jack are taking, Sam arrives in the doorway to report the news about Maggie.Sometime later, Dean, Sam, Castiel, Bobby, Mary and Jack are standing over Maggie’s body, trying to figure out how she died and if a monster killed her. Jack blames himself for Maggie’s death, because he’d promised to keep her safe. The group surmises that Maggie was likely beaten to death, and it doesn’t look like a monster did it.

Back at the bunker, Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Jack question one of Maggie’s friends from the AU, trying to figure out what happened to Maggie. It seems that Maggie had gone out the night before, but never returned. Her friend is shocked to learn that Maggie is dead, but the group continues questioning her about where Maggie may have gone the night before. Her friend confesses that Maggie had a crush on a local boy (Nate) who works at a nearby convenience story. Maggie was likely going out to see him the night she died. When the group learns this, Dean suggests that they go talk to Nate, but suddenly everyone realizes Jack is missing.

At the convenience store, Jack arrives and attacks Nate, grabbing the young may by the throat and threatening to kill him.

Dean, Sam and Castiel arrive and try to stop Jack from harming Nate. Jack flings Castiel off, but when Dean shoots Jack in the back to get his attention, he releases Nate. From Nate’s shocked reaction upon learning of Maggie’s death, Dean and Sam can tell that he didn’t kill her. Jack then realizes that he, once again, has attacked and injured someone who was innocent. Jack storms out alone.

Dean, Sam and Castiel try to calm Nate, telling him that they are FBI agents and that the bullets Dean used to shoot Jack were rubber, which is why Jack was unharmed. As they’re talking, the room begins to shake and the lights flicker. Dean orders Nate to leave, and the young man runs out of the store.

.
As soon as Nate is gone, Dean, Sam and Castiel all hear the ear-piercing sound that means an archangel is approaching. They try to run, but Michael arrives before they can get away. Dean, Sam, and Castiel reach the outside of the store, but suddenly all the glass shatters with tremendous force. Michael exits the ruined structure and approaches them.

Before Michael can reach them, Dean uses an urn of holy oil to make a Molotov cocktail and tosses the device at Michael’s feet. The archangel, temporarily imprisoned by the flames, watches the men pile into the Impala and drive away.

In the nearby woods, Jack is walking alone and berating himself for making yet another mistake. He recalls the people he has hurt and killed, and feels guilty that he keeps making the wrong decisions. As Jack is muttering to himself about how he keeps hurting people, Lucifer suddenly appears and greets him.

LUCIFER AND JACK
Jack is shocked to see Lucifer alive, because Sam told Jack he was dead. Lucifer berates Sam, calling him a liar, and assures Jack that he is truly alive and his appearance isn’t a trick. Lucifer tells Jack that Sam left him behind in the AU, but that he has come to this world to be reunited with his son. He tells Jack that because they are blood, he understands him better than the Winchesters and Castiel ever will. He also tries to convince Jack that the humans are “limited” and fragile and that no matter how often you try to do right, something will always go wrong with humans because of who and what they are. Lucifer tells Jack that he doesn’t belong with humans, but he should be with his father, who understands him and his powers better than humans ever will.

Lucifer asks Jack to leave with him – telling him they can pick any universe they want to visit and go there. Jack is reluctant to leave the Winchesters and Castiel, but Lucifer tells Jack that he deserves to live his own life. Jack agrees to leave with Lucifer, but says there’s something he wants him to do first.

AT THE BUNKER
Dean, Sam, and Castiel have not yet returned to the bunker. Bobby and Mary are talking, and Bobby reports that he has spoken to everyone in their group, and nobody seems to know who would want to hurt Maggie. Mary surmises that maybe someone outside the group killed Maggie.

As Bobby and Mary are talking, they are shocked to see Jack enter the room with Lucifer following him. Bobby steps aside to call Sam, and Mary follows Jack and Lucifer into the library where Maggie’s body is lying on a table under a sheet.

Apparently, Lucifer has agreed to resurrect Maggie in exchange for Jack's agreeing to leave with him. Lucifer warns Jack that sometimes when people get resurrected, they come back “different”; but Jack persists, so Lucifer reluctantly resurrects Maggie.

As soon as Maggie is resurrected, Jack and Lucifer disappear. Dean, Sam, and Castiel rush back to the bunker to find Mary and Bobby standing with Maggie, who seems stunned to be alive.

Later, everyone at the bunker is trying to figure out what happened and how Lucifer and Michael managed to get into our world from the AU. They also realize that they urgently need to find Jack before Michael and Lucifer do whatever they have planned. While Dean reaches out by phone to the network of hunters for help, and Castiel listens in on angel radio for any news, Sam talks to Maggie. She doesn’t remember much about dying, but reluctantly tells Sam that she remembers her killer had glowing, red eyes.

Before long, Michael breaks into the bunker.

Dean orders Mary, Bobby and Maggie to leave, so they run out before Michael enters. Once the archangel is inside the bunker, he attacks Dean, Sam, and Castiel. After a brief fight, Michael has Dean by the throat and is preparing to kill him. When Dean asks Michael how he got into this world, Michael reveals that he and Lucifer made a deal. Lucifer remembered how to open the rift from watching Rowena and the Winchesters do it, so he knew which ingredients to assemble and how to perform the spell. He agreed to work with Michael so they could both get what they wanted – Lucifer would get his son, so he could take him and leave this world; and Michael would get the rest of the world to dispose of as he pleased. Realizing that Michael is preparing to kill Dean and that they can’t defeat the archangel, Sam quietly prays to Jack for his help…

LUCIFER AND JACK
In an undisclosed, wooded location, Lucifer and Jack look at the night sky and marvel at the beauty of the stars. As Lucifer is discussing how they are now free to explore all the stars, Jack hears Sam’s prayer and teleports back to the bunker. Lucifer follows him.

AT THE BUNKER
Jack and Lucifer arrive at the bunker in time for Jack to attack Michael and save Dean. Jack blasts Michael away from Dean and into a pillar, which temporarily disables him. Then he uses his powers to severely injure Michael, leaving him bleeding from the eyes and ears, and unable to continue fighting.

In front of the rest of the group, Michael screams to Lucifer that they had a deal. Lucifer urgently cajoles Jack, telling him that they should leave now that the Winchesters are out of danger, but Jack is surprised by what Michael is saying and demands to know if it’s true. In the conversation that follows, Jack forces Lucifer to tell the truth. He learns about the deal Michael made with Lucifer. He also learns that Maggie saw Lucifer scouting out the bunker and that when Maggie screamed, Lucifer killed her.

Jack is furious with Lucifer, calls him a monster, and refuses to leave with him. Enraged, Lucifer tells Jack that he had his chance to rule by his side and remake the universe into what they wanted it to be, but now – since he can’t rule the universe with him, he doesn’t need him. Lucifer suddenly pulls out an archangel blade, and uses it to cut Jack’s throat and steal his grace.

Lucifer begins to glow and reaches for Jack. Sam, believing that Lucifer is preparing to harm Jack, lunges for the boy. Before anyone else can stop what is happening, Lucifer, Sam and Jack disappear in a flash of light.

LUCIFER, SAM, and JACK
Lucifer, Sam and Jack materialize in an abandoned church. With Jack weakened and unable to defend himself and Sam, Lucifer begins beating and torturing Sam. Jack tries to stop the beating, but Lucifer simply turns his wrath onto his son. Lucifer wants to torture both of them and prove to them how wrong they are about their devotion to each other.

Lucifer orders Sam and Jack to choose which one of them will kill the other, saying that if they refuse to choose, he’ll kill both of them, destroy the universe, and remake it in his own image. He also says that if they agree to choose, whichever one of them survives might have a chance to stop him from destroying the universe. He drops an archangel blade onto the floor in front of Sam and Jack and waits to see which one will step forward.

After hesitation, Sam picks up the archangel blade and tells Jack to kill him, insisting that Jack is strong enough to defeat Lucifer, but he is not. Jack refuses, telling Sam that he knows he’ll find a way to defeat the devil. Jack prepares to stab himself with the archangel blade…

AT THE BUNKER
Dean and Castiel are shocked and try to urgently figure out what happened. Michael tells them that Lucifer won and he will now kill Sam and Jack. He also says that since Lucifer has consumed the grace of a nephilim, he is more “juiced up” than ever, and nobody can stop him. When Dean challenges Michael, reminding him that he beat Lucifer before, Michael replies that defeating Lucifer would have been possible before because his own vessel was strong and Lucifer wasn’t super-charged; but now with Michael’s vessel being so severely damaged, there’s no way he can defeat the devil.

In a moment of haste, Dean remembers being told by Zachariah and Gabriel (season 5) that he is Michael’s true vessel – his sword. Against Castiel’s strident objections, Dean agrees to be Michael’s vessel so that together they can save Sam and Jack. Dean stipulates that HE will be in charge, and Michael agrees.

LUCIFER, SAM, and JACK
At the abandoned church, Jack begins stabbing himself with the archangel blade when suddenly the room is flooded with bright light. As everyone looks on, Dean-Michael appears, unfurling his archangel wings.

Dean greets his brother, and Sam realizes what has happened. Lucifer steps forward, and he and Dean-Michael fight. After an elaborate fight, Dean appears to be losing. Realizing he needs help, Sam tosses his brother the archangel blade. Dean stabs Lucifer with the blade and kills him.

For a brief instant, Dean and Sam marvel at the fact that Lucifer is dead, they killed him together, and they (and Jack) are still alive. Before they can celebrate, Dean grimaces and groans loudly, doubling over in pain. He shouts “We had a deal!” and doubles over further. When he stands erect after a few seconds, his eyes are cold and his facial expression is flat. Smiling darkly, he says “Thanks for the suit” and disappears, as Sam and Jack look on in shock.

Back at the bunker, Mary and Bobby rush into the library to find Castiel sitting alone, looking distraught and saddened. He shakes his head, but doesn’t say anything. No words are exchanged, but Mary and Bobby know something terrible has happened.

Later, we see Dean dressed in a suit and wearing a cap that Dean Winchester would never wear. He’s walking down a crowded street, looking at the world with a dark, cold smile on his face. Before the camera cuts away from Dean’s face, his eyes glow bright blue, reminding us that Michael has taken over Dean’s vessel.
