The title is references the 2009 film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in which the main character (Brad Pitt) lives his life backwards from an elderly man to a baby.

Sam: It's like Grumpy Old Men.

Referring to the 1993 movie starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau as two grumpy old men.

Dean: Pound it up your ass, Ironside.

Referring to the 1967 TV series starring Raymond Burr as Wheelchair-bound detective Robert T. Ironside, who battles the bad guys on the streets of San Francisco.

At the beginning of the episode, the woman is reading the Weekly World News, although it ceased publication in 2007. It was last featured in 2.15 Tall Tales.
