Family Remains
FAMILY REMAINS Episode 411 airdate: 15 January 2009 directed by Philip Sgriccia written by Jeremy Carver |
A man is brutally murdered in a locked room inside a locked house. The Winchesters are thinking "ghost." They barely have a chance to go through the house, when the family that bought it arrives with a moving truck. But when they hear the daughter scream, it's a cue for Sam and Dean to rush in and admit to the family that they have a haunting. However, the "ghost" crosses a salt line, and Dean realizes she's a human being -- a very angry and violent one. When the new owners' son disappears, Dean insists on finding and then rescuing him (feeling that he needs to keep atoning for what he did in hell). In the end, most of the family survives, but dean feels like he's seen a bit of himself in the feral siblings they found in this house. |
- Kate: I just got molested by Casper the pervy ghost! That's what happened!
- Danny: You hunt ghosts?
Dean: That's right.
Danny: Like Scooby-Doo?
Dean: Better.

- Can Dean come to grips with what he did in hell?
- Once again, the actions of human beings can be harder to understand than those of demons and angry spirits!
- This is only the second time in the series that an assumed supernatural event turned out not to be supernatural (but simply very strange human beings). The first was The Benders.
- (no non-original music)
- When Sam explains to Dean that the murdered man's daughter had a great deal of anxiety over an unplanned pregnancy, Dean answers, "Geez, rent Juno; get over it." This is a reference to the 2007 movie starring Ellen Page as Juno MacGuff, a teenager dealing with pregnancy and having to choose between adoption and abortion.
A mysterious death draws Sam and Dean to a town full of magicians. Their investigation leads to Charlie, Jay, and Vernon, three old-school magicians who have been replaced by flashier, younger magicians. One of them made a deal to acquire real magical powers, but the price is extremely high. Sam and Dean must figure out how to reverse the spell before others are harmed.

Thread started: Jan 20 2009, 4:03 AM EST Watch This episode actually scared me, and I love scary movies. I was so excited to finally see this one, and it was legit freaky!!!! Oh, and poor Dean!!! I felt so bad for him at the end. When Jensen cries, it is so difficult not to cry. The speech in AHBL 2 is living proof of that one. But this episode was a good one. It is kindof reminiscent of the first season for me. I enjoyed immensely, and cannot wait until Afterschool Special! (DEAN IN THE GYM SHORTS!!!!)
