- Why didn't John ever tell Dean and Sam about Adam and his mother?

- The boys had a brother they never knew about, only to find him once they can never get to know him.
|
- It's never made clear why the ghouls take so long to kill Sam. They have several opportunities throughout the episode when he's essentially alone and they can dispose of him when Dean is nowhere nearby, but instead they leave him alone.

- The name of the diner where Sam and Dean stop to meet Adam for the first time is Cousin Oliver's. Cousin Oliver was a character on the Brady Bunch, a younger child who was added near the end of the series in an attempt to freshen up an aging show. Adding a "Cousin Oliver" is generally thought to be a bad idea and is an example of a show "jumping the shark."
