JENSEN ACKLES | DEAN WINCHESTER
|Actor bio: Jensen Ross Ackles was born in Dallas, Texas March 1, 1978 to Alan Ackles and Donna Joan Shaffer. His parents chose his name because it was uncommon. He has an older brother named Joshua and a younger sister Mackenzie. He is of Irish and British ancestry. He graduated from Dartmouth Elementary School in 1990, Apollo Junior High School in 1993 and Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas in 1996, where he played baseball and lacrosse.
Before moving to LA where he began his career as an actor, he had planned to study sports medicine at Texas Tech University and become a physical therapist.
In 1996, after modeling off and on as a kid, Jensen began to concentrate on becoming an actor. He appeared in several guest roles on Mr. Rhodes, Sweet Valley High, and Cybill before joining the cast of the NBC Soap Opera Days of Our Lives as Eric Brady in 1997. He won a 1998 Soap Opera Digest Award for best male newcomer and went on to be nominated three times for a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding young actor for drama series for his work on Days Of Our Lives.
Jensen worked steadily throughout 2003. He joined the cast of the WB's hit show Dawson's Creek during the final season, playing CJ, Jen Lindley's lover. Afterward, Jensen filmed several episodes of the unaired series Still Life for Fox before it was abruptly dropped. He also had a small role in the 2004 short film the Plight of Clownana. Jensen was the producer's first choice to play Eliza Dushku's love interest on the second season of Tru Calling, but Jensen returned to Vancouver (where Dark Angel was filmed) in 2004 to become a regular on Smallville instead, playing Jason Taegue, the romantic interest of Lana Lang, played by Kristen Kreuk. He also had a lead role in the 2005 film Devour, in which his father also had a role -- playing his character's father!
Jensen joined the cast of the WB horror series Supernatural in 2005, where he co-stars as Dean Winchester. Dean teams with his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) to road trip across the country investigating the paranormal while searching for their missing father John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The second season was picked up by the CW in 2006 for the 2006-2007 television season. The show was later renewed for a third season.
Jensen starred with a great ensemble cast (including future wife Daneel Harris) in the 2007 film Ten Inch Hero, in which he played the role of Priestly. He also appeared on stage from June 5-10, 2007 with Lou Diamond Philips in A Few Good Men at Casa Mañana Theatre in Fort Worth Texas as Lt. Daniel Kaffee. This marked the first time Jensen has performed in a live theater setting outside of high school.
In 2009, Jensen filled the starring role in a remake of the 1981 horror film My Bloody Valentine. This time the movie was in 3D, feature pick-axes being throwing at the screen and the like, but Jensen did a terrific job as the troubled main character.
In 2010, he took on a voice role, playing Red Hood in the action animation Batman: Under the Hood.
Wedding bells chimed in 2010! Jensen wed long-time girlfriend Danneel Harris (One Tree Hill) in his hometown of Dallas, TX, on May 15. Jensen, 32, and Danneel, 31, began dating in 2007 when they starred together in the movie Ten Inch Hero, though they had known each other and been friends before then. They announced their engagement in November 2009.
