• Dr. Visyak had the sword of Bruncvik, a famous Czech knight who slayed a nine-headed dragon. The white lion that he rescued from battle with that dragon then became his closest ally, and today that lion is the symbol of the nation. It is rumored that the sword is hidden in the stones of the Charles Bridge in Prague.

• Bobby recalls that Sam "went straight up Menedez on me," referring to the Mendez brothers (Lyle and Erik), who killed their own parents for money.

• After Castiel checked Sam's soul in the beginning, Dean calls Sam-without-soul a T-1000, referencing the 1991 film Terminator 2and its main robot antagonist.

Sam begins to recall details of working with the Campbells during his year without a soul. He receives a message with coordinates to a small town, and he and Dean go to investigate. Dean is surprised when the townspeople start telling him some of the things Sam did while he was there.
